Gotta admit, this sounds like one of those curved spactime things.

The "wall of fire" outside our solar system is the sun itself, and when you pass through it, you come out the other side, but everything looks different because so much time has passed in transit, so we don't recognize that these super distant objects we see are actually our own celestial bodies at a different point in time.

The universe is only as large as our solar system, and as you move in what appears to be a straight line, it wraps around and you end up looping back through the sun.

You know, in Stellaris, there are Shielded words, they can contain anything from an Admiral all the way to dangerous interstellar void clouds (angry gas clouds that seem to exist by hate).

Obviously another species had to bomb us back to the stone age long ago and then for good measure imprison us, just to be safe.
