I loved it, kept outside forces from ruining our contests.

If outside forces wanted to intervene, Allen's attempts would have been futile.

The only thing I didnt like was the lack of match pics, if I remember correctly. Everything else was fine.

They were good, keep doubling us up. True it wouldn't have stopped a serious rally, but it was still nice.

The best anti-rallying measure was stopping people from caring about the contests other than us.

Well, the match pics stayed the same throughout the main contest, but we got user made pics for the double elimination portion.

for sure

but I liked the double voting anyway, it might convince ralliers to make accounts and stick around. good for the site as a whole

It was good, even though in the only match where it made a difference (or almost made a difference?), it pushed the vote in a direction I didn't like

At least, I think. Hard to remember.

I think it was mega man vs fifa, and registered users voted for mega man

It made a difference in Phoenix vs. Ike, as it should have.

All it needed to do was dissuade rallying to be effective.

The fact that it actually didn't change almost anything is even better.

Didnt care for it, but it might not be entirely to blame since tons of people have quit caring about the contests altogether. I would love to see it get flooded by crazy outside votes again so we could see less boring shit since the voter base of this site is insanely biased towards the same stuff year after year after year

because as soon as a rally hits the contest is over

And thats somehow different than the character contests all being over the instant the bracket is made without rallies...how exactly?

somehow ralliers pick even worse things to rally behind than this site does

besides I honestly don't care who wins the overall contest

I care more about the inner workings of how characters measure up against each other fair and square and rallies just make things dumb and pointless

Well first of all you're the one who said it was 'less boring.' Now that someone has told you it is just as or more predictable you're saying it's the same?

Second of all Link puts up less dominant percentages and totals than rallies so you can at least hope something interesting will come out of it.

With the rallies it at least takes until the match to see if they explode or not. You can try to guess who might get huge ones or ones at all and theres no way to know for sure until it actually happens. Just the fact they result in different stuff is what I like though because its way less static than the preferences of voters here. Im never gonna see eye to eye with contest purists who want no rallies and just want to crunch numbers based on past contests and stuff

Rallies are way more fun to watch. It beats Link winning by 70% or more over and over.

Though I am hoping they do a contest consisting of characters that debuted from 2010 to 2020 (excluding alternate versions of existing characters). Could be interesting.

I don't want no rallies I just want smaller rallies (alternatively ones that don't involve vote stuffing over Allen's amateur hour protection but that's neither here nor there)

Once you're putting up like 60% on MMX and Ryu it's way more degenerate than anything Link puts up and the contest is way further down the path of dead and buried than it is with Link.

Like Starcraft in 2004 was super exciting. Hell L-Block in 2007 was exciting too, even if it did ultimately end up winning.

nah the rallies are only fun when they actually go up against Link like Draven did

or at least they used to be, as Undertale demonstrated when it boatraced Ocarina of Time in the last Games Contest

it also got in the way of Chrono Trigger maybe being able to legitimately win the contest which would have been way more fun and more impressive

(although Melee rallying was the far more egregious offense than Draven or Undertale imhotbqh)

For what its worth Im not saying we need Draven level rallies. I just want rallies that actually shake things up and give us results wed otherwise never see in our bran flakes contests. Some flavor you know. They dont need to be DDLC putting 90% on BotW or anything crazy, but Id still find that hilarious if it happened

My problem is that we have no proof or reason to believe that there's any middle ground between 300-vote hentai swings and unstoppable bandwagons at this point.

Either Link/A Zelda Game wins or some random rallied entrant wins big.

The only thing less predictable about the latter is that you have to pick it in your bracket. But once the tournament begins and the rally takes hold, the winner just changes from Link/A Zelda Game to the rallied entrant. (Unless another entrant also gets a mega rally, which is possible but hasn't happened yet.)

Why not invite outside voters? I know few of them will join the community, but the community is shrinking. Even getting a few more members is good for the site, even if a much larger number influence contests. Also "Link wins" has been the case for every contest not influenced by outside forces minus 2k3. How is that fun?
