I might go look up the exact videos later tonight or something, but a youtuber who use to work at GameStop (and was fired) started talking about things happening there. And then made some predictions. They like all cane true. Then he made some more predictions, which GameStop said wasnt true, right before they carried them out... Then they started firing people for watchingnhis videos, and are making the remaining employees sign a NDA. And are firing anyone that wont sign it...

Heres the channel...

I worked for them back in '94 and they were a bad company even then. I have no idea how they have managed to survive this long.

I have no idea whether or not he's a racist, but apparently there are recordings of him using racial slurs so it's a distinct possibility.

Some people might not have many options. Plus, the BF sale they are about to have is really good... But thats because theyre almost dead...

Its still horrible, apparently. And getting worse. They dont like the airing of all their dirty laundry...

Its not the regular people scared. Its the company higher ups. And a few employees, though the employees are scared because of different things...

Basically. They are hoping BF & Christmas get them some money. People think that it could survive for maybe the first quarter of next year. But most people think that as soon as they get the numbers up, theyre jumping ship...

Basically, theyre fucked. You dont even need to burn down the stores. GameStop is doing that themselves...

*clicks link, is exactly who i thought it was*

yeah, he's okay. some of his videos are kinda annoying, but i have seen a bunch and he seems like a good enough dude.

i worked at gs for a few years and how much you wished bankruptcy upon it really depended on who you worked with and how much the manager had a raging boner for corporate policy and meeting goals and stuff. i never worked in a place like that, thank fucking god, but i would have just quit if i had. they basically force stores to be unscrupulous with such lofty expectations. the company is a fucking joke. you reap what you sow, and with me that was a mouthy, disloyal jerk that did that the bare minimum because i didn't care if they fired me or not.

I'm enjoying the stories. But the constant "kill me" "I want to die" schtick is getting irritating. I think every video that I have watched so far has this lame crap in it and most have it more than once.

They missed numbers and they're closing some locations. While they're not doing well, it's hardly a doomsday prediction. And there are a *lot* of companies operating at a loss these days who are doing things to try to right the ship.

Normally, Id agree. Lots of stores close down multiple locations. And it usually keeps them afloat. But those stores are not always as close to death. Or people like them. Or the CEOs are as bad. But GameStop does sound like it might be on its way out... Possibly... Plus, while I usually dont trust what people say, I feel like hes been pretty spot on...

For some people like me it's the only game store in town, our other game stores burned down. Thankfully I can do most shopping online obviously but there are others who don't know better.

It's pretty inconceivable that Gamestop could be in that bad shape without having far larger warning bells. Most of the companies that go out usually cut far more locations and have been in the red for a lot longer. Even Sears, which is bankrupt (or was bankrupt within the last year), is still operating some locations.

As for Gamestop, it still has thousands of locations including multiple locations in the same city/town. I've visited places where there was a Gamestop in the mall then another location within 5 minutes of the mall one. I'm sure that there are plenty of oversaturated markets like that where they could trim low-performing stores and be in better health. The used-games market certainly isn't going anywhere and retail locations still make a lot of sense when it comes to sourcing used games.

I feel if people learned to just buy from game stop (no preorders though like someone else here they fucked up one for me) never sell to them it wouldnt be so bad. Last bad expierence I had with them I wanted a used 360 and they kept trying to talk me into a model they would have to order when the one I actually wanted was sitting right there. I got tired of it and said loud enough hopefully the manager heard "fuck this I'll buy a new one at walmart" havent had issues out of that store since.

But as far as going in picking a game up off the shelf and buying it ive never had a problem with them

I don't see what everyone has against Gamestop.

They sell video games.

You go in....choose the game you want. Buy it. And then leave.

Where is all this drama coming from? Honestly?

Their game selection is better than Wal-Mart's.

If it has something to do with "behind the scenes drama" of how certain Gamestops treat some of their employees, that's a specific store problem.

Around here, the Gamestops have had the same people employed for years. So they clearly like the job.

[shrug]

There are horror stories for every type of job on the planet. Doesn't mean they are all the same.

Yeah. I can understand the gripe on how little they give you for you selling them a game but thats a simple solution. Dont. And I know some people hate the sales pitches they try on you. Easy solution learn to say no.

Other thaan that i agree with all you have said.

They have some scummy business practices which I think annoy people. Personally, I hate their open/new policy, but 90% of the time it's not an issue because I just won't buy open/new (the remaining 10% of the time I learn they have something in stock and travel out only to find that it's open/new, which it's also worth mentioning isn't really "new" because employees play those copies).

In general because they're so big and almost everybody winds up using them at some point, most people will have have a bad Gamestop story.

For all their problems, they do have some great bargains at times, most employees seem to try to help you out, and I love their clearance selection (which makes up for their markup on collectibles)
