I've been making a Metroidvania for almost 3 years off and on and have one spot left for another weapon. I thought it might be a cool idea to see if anybody else aside from me could think of something great.
You can give it extra powers or whatever too, of course. Here's what I have so far so you know what kind of things already exist: ---- Sword (1H) Damage: 1-3, Chance to critically hit: 2% Torch (1H) Fire Damage: 1-3, Extra Damage vs. insects, lights dark areas when held, burns plant obstacles, can't use while in water Whip (1H) Damage: 2-3, Fast weapon, long reach Spear (2H) Damage: 1-3, Damage vs. flying enemies +10, can't use a shield while equipped Axe (1H) Damage: 3-5, Swings in an overhead arc Wand (1H) Magic Damage: 3-10, Fires 3 orange projectiles downward & away, short range Rod (1H) Magic Damage: 1-4, Fires 3 blue projectiles up & away that go through walls / enemies Zweihander (2H) Damage: 5-12, hits through enemy shields, can't use a shield while equipped Gold Axe (1H) Damage: 1-7, Item Drop Rate is increased Izo's Razor (sword) (1H) Damage: 8-10, Cursed, Small chance to heal the enemy to full HP on strike El Zappo (whip) (1H) Electric Damage: 1-5, Damage increased to 14-15 when wet, able to power dead batteries Cactus Rod (1H) Magic Damage: 3-6, Creates a spinning projectile attack that may deflect enemy projectiles Roll of Quarters (1H) Damage: 5, short range, very fast Dagger (1H) Damage: 1-4, Critically hits enemies when stabbed from behind Icebrand (Sword) (1H) Damage: 1-5, Freezes some enemies into solid blocks of ice that can be used as platforms Flail (1H) Damage: 2-9, long reach, very slow, smashes through rubble and other similar obstacles Devil Axe (1H) Damage: 9-13, Cursed, Chance to critically hit: 9%, HP drains over time / 3 per tick ---- I'd kind of like the new weapon to not be another sword if that helps. --- My roguelike, Equin: The Lantern! https://store.steampowered.com/app/547980/Equin_The_Lantern/ ... No ranged attacks (other than magic)? Bow and arrow/crossbow or javelins would seem to be obvious options. Or boomerang, but then you're shading into Zelda comparisons.
Other than that... some kind of cestus. Or an aura-type attack (you burst into flame, enemies who touch you take damage, the balancing factor being that you either have limited use/power, or you yourself take damage from the aura while it's running, or maybe you're just trading off the ability to keep enemies at bay because you have to let them hit you to damage them). --- "Wall of Text'D!" --- oldskoolplayr76 "POwned again." --- blight family ... I had a crossbow in mind prior as well but wanted to make it so that all the projectile weapons were magic wands and etc. There are enemy wizards in the game that are immune to magic so the thinking here was that you'd have to go up close and personal with them using melee weapons on purpose. With a crossbow (or similar) you'd be able to cheese them from afar which for these in particular I didn't want to do. SunWuKung420 posted... Slingshot Not bad, but the projectile weapons have to be magic-based for this particular game. Plus I totally forgot one of my weapons, a cleaver. I'll update my main post in a minute. EDIT: Hmmm apparently it's been too long and I can't update it anymore :( Anyhow it was- Cleaver (1H) Damage 1-2, has a blood meter to it- keep striking enemies to fill the gauge and once full next swing deals 17-18 damage and resets the gauge. So if we take some of these posts together we're looking at some sort of Holy Warhammer with a healing enchantment. There's an existing powerup in the game already where if you have it and kill a minor enemy within X seconds it heals you for a very small amount. Maybe the hammer could boost the healing and create a nice synergy. Note: X = variable.
