Story is decent. Nothing groundbreaking, no new ideas just a "not a zombie-zombie" game with some interesting characters made when that was super popular in the zeitgeist. But the gameplay is where it really shits the bed. Fucking AWFUL AI, clunky controls, boring cover based stealth and combat. The stealth is very bad due to the awful AI. Dunno why this game was so revered. About 50% of the way in, it's like a cinematic toilet flush.

Man, I want to agree but when does the story get good? Cuz at 50% it doesn't really push the envelope.

I would agree if they took those gameplay mechanics and made something of it. They were just a means to a cutscene. Pretty much every game that i assume TLOU pulls from did their gameplay 10x better. It would have made foe a better interactive story imo, but I guess that's kinda what it ends up being lol

Only things The Last of Us does good is the graphics, the voice acting/performance, and some of the characters. Story is generic and predictable. Gameplay isnt anything special. Music isnt very memorable outside of one track. Very overrated game but its Sony and Naughty Dog.

The Last of Us is an over-praised game with obvious flaws. SPOILERS!!!!

1. I really dislike "Us humans are the real monsters" themed games. It just seems over done to the point where it gets predictable and boring now, and unfortunately this game uses this trope to its very fucking core.

2. I don't know if you guys knew this or not but the game made it very apparent that Joel and his girlfriend weren't good people. Joel saving Ellie wasn't really an act of kindness. He did for his selfish reasons.

3. Linear game design is one thing, but I felt like I was just going from point to point to trigger a cutscene

4. The game held your hand through out the game. You're going to be fighting zombies soon? We'll let you know by showing spores and you can hear them screech half a mile away. Fighting humans soon? Well we'll give you a great secret hiding spot to start at and we'll make you a ninja and make everyone else a loud ass brute.

5. For the most part, anything and everything is easily disposed by the shotgun. Headshots are instant kills and they aren't hard to do, even in the harder difficulties.

6. The survivor horror aspect of the game is an illusion by trying to say you only have limited low amounts of ammo and items but the fact is as soon as you empty your ammo on a group of hostiles, they always drop enough to refill your stuff back up.

7. The game is super easy even in hard mode. Survivor and Grounded mode is a great challenge but seriously you shouldn't have to always play on an insane hard level to find challenge within the game.

But like nu-GoW the game was tailor made for mass appeal and awardbait with a heavy story about fatherhood that critics eat up because it validates their profession of writing about games like they're art. Bonus points now that Ellie is full lesbian now. TLoU 2 will win a lot of awards based on its story, message and presentation alone.

i thought TLOU was really good for one playthrough. however if you try to play it a second time, the game kind of falls apart a bit b/c it is very reliant on set pieces, scripted surprises, etc. overall though it is a lot of fun

I think you misread what I posted. I said the game is mostly easy, but people's usual rebuttle is "THEN PLAY GROUNDED" and I'm simply saying you shouldn't have to play it on the hardest insane mode to get a challenge.

And that's fine but people like me see's pass all those glitters. You still have to be somewhat innovative, original and have a gameplay that sticks.

We already knew all this. TLoU is effectively a walking sim with lame stealth sections tacked on to add some form of gameplay.

If all you care about is plot, you may like the game since it appears to do well in that category but I'm under no illusions that the gameplay is worthwhile at all.
