I have played TLoU. It's definitely a movie game.

According to google the game has 93 minutes of cutscenes. And according to How Long to Beat it takes most people 15 1/2 hours to beat the game. So thats 14 hours of straight up gameplay. How is that a movie game? Lol

You can pull whatever statistics to justify whatever you want but, as it's been claimed before, the greatest attribute this game doesn't come from its gameplay or battle system.

I kind of hated the city level. The game just doesn't work as well with human enemies IMO.

The second half is much better.

You end up fighting more humans than infected overall. I think its because the infected were added later on in the development cycle.

I think if you are trying to play TLOU now instead of when it was released in 2013 then you lose what made it groundbreaking at the time. The gameplay was simple enough that casuals could pick up the controller and play, and on top of that it had a pretty emotional story with some amazing voice performances. To this day people still discuss and argue over the ending, you cant say that about most games let alone a game that is 6 years old.

For better or worse TLOU was basically the mold for all PS4 exclusives going forward.

TLoU made movie games cool. I get it. And this game did nothing to me after finishing Telltale's The Walking Dead. The did the Father and daughter thing 100x better.

Not necessarily, I was just saying the gameplay is bad. The only worthwhile content in the game are the cutscenes, and the gameplay segments are just the means to get to the next one. Does that make it a movie game? And who really cares? Calling it a movie game is a lame criticism when there's dozens of other things you can easily point out.

The gameplay is good its just simple. Everything is technically sound and works. Melee combat is as simple as mashing square but its brutal and satisfying. It's also satisfying to get past a room without firing a sigle shot if you're so inclined and very tense on harder difficulties knowing one sound could fuck you up. I agree with everything Jiggy just said and I wish I could be cynical and shit on this game but Cuckmann knows how to make a good, entertaining game with good writing to elevate it above just another zombie game.

I enjoyed Season 1 of The Walking Dead and do think that was a great story, but if your argument is that TLOU had boring gameplay then surely the same can be said about TWD.

People have been calling MGS games movie games forever now for its over dramatic acting and plot. Why should TLoU and GoW get a different treatment?

Telltale's The Walking Dead was much better in that regard

The fact that I can play the Last of Us and have my entire family hooked on watching me play says something. Even my girlfriend who hates games and zombie sat to watch me play from beginning to end.

If I were to play something like Left 4 Dead or whatever else, my family is just like meh, and they just pass me by.

Average at best.

I feel like the sound mechanics that actually made the game fun were easy to miss.

You snipe somebody, then run away before they find you. Easy to set up Molotov strikes that way too.

But no, the appeal is the story, so if you don't like that, you probably won't have a good time.

I wasn't hooked on it myself until the end of Summer.

It's just because calling it a movie game is kind of miscategorizing it. When people think of movie games they think of stuff like Telltale's games, or David Cage works, or Until Dawn. Games where there's very little gameplay. If a game has more far more gameplay than cutscenes, even if story is a big selling point to the game, it's a bit disingenuous to call it a movie game, is all. Like, you probably wouldn't call MGSV a movie game compared to MGS4.

It's like the whole thing where people were upset if Metroid Prime was called an FPS, because the game was more than just your typical FPS and was more like an action adventure, just in first-person.

A cursory Google search doesn't even find "movie game" as a video game genre. You're using a term with no set definition that is generally tossed at games that someone thinks have too many cutscenes and too much focus on story. And you're passing it off as an obvious truth.

It isn't really a stealth game. Hell, the fact that Elly doesn't cause the AI to react is proof of that. You can use stealth to gain an advantage but it isnt a stealth game.

It isn't really a stealth game. Hell, the fact that Elly doesn't cause the AI to react is proof of that. You can use stealth to gain an advantage but it isnt a stealth game.

I know it's not a stealth game, but it forces, or maybe encourages, stealth situations on the player when it completely lacks any depth of stealth mechanics. Doesn't help that the AI is as dumb as rocks.

The combat is bad too. The shooting was cool at first, felt weighty and kinda hectic, but that feel got tiring after the first few instances. The melee combat is really nothing special.
