Watch the English dub instead. Asta's voice is much more tolerable and much less painful in the dub, plus it has Chris Sabat as Yami.

He stops doing it as much and the VA doesn't shriek quite as much after the first dozen episodes or so. Like it's still a thing but it's like once every other episode instead of every two minutes.

Oh I am watching the dub on Hulu. About 8 episodes in. It's finally dropping off in frequency but being picked up Noelle reminding everyone she's royalty every two damn minutes.

Tbh it's one of the only shows on toonami I skip. That and naruto. Is it actually good? It seems boring from the episodes I've seen. I usually sit on my phone while it's on in the background if I watch toonami live.

I really like it. I enjoy how it's pretty light-hearted and comedic outside of the drama, and a lot of the characters work off each other really well. Asta is a fun protagonist who doesn't go too far into annoying territory beyond those first few episodes, Yuno is a great competitive rival without being edgy at all, Noelle is one of the best and most competent female characters in shonen history already, and Yami's whole "retired shonen protagonist who already finished his adventure and is now using his genre awareness to help Asta and the gang" thing makes him (in my opinion) the best character in the show. A lot of the side characters (especially the other members of the Black Bulls) are one-note characters, but the various ways they mix and match those one-note characters and still give them development is oddly satisfying.

In general, I've noticed that Black Clover is good at taking a lot of generic parts (generic shonen tropes, generic character types, generic ideas) and weaving them together in creative and non-generic ways. The whole "magic knights" setup is similar to Fairy Tail's guilds, the whole "want to be the Wizard King" thing is similar to Naruto wanting to be Hokage, and Asta having unique anti-magic in a world full of magic is similar to Touma's Imagine Breaker being able to cancel out magic/esper abilities in A Certain Magical Index... it's a blatant rip-off of all three of those ideas, but the way it combines those ideas into one great setting is what makes the show fun.

That's one of the weaker arcs outside of the awesome fight against Vetto but it keeps getting better from there. The arc the anime is currently at on streaming services (Toonami is like 12 or 14 episodes behind where Crunchyroll/Funimation/Hulu are) has been the best yet.
