Your best year of the 2010s?

2013, I met some of the coolest people that I know, best time at work, didn't have as many health issues, had fun gaming, Instagram was starting to become popular but people still mainly used stuff like Facebook, Tumblr was still good, people still used blogspot, some of my other favorite websites didn't yet go defunct or have massive changes...

I dunno, the last decade was weird. My professional and social lives had a directly inverse trajectory (made less money, had more free time and was with a great woman), then that flipped again this year (single again, busy as fuck, all of the sudden making half again as much as I was). Maybe somewhere around 2014 there was a happy medium?

First half of the decade wasn't too good, 2015 is when things turned around for me and it's been getting better ever since. I voted 2019.

Until 2013 I was a bullying target in my Primary School
2014 nothing happened that I remember
2015-16 I was both bullied and sexually harassed. I went to Europe in '16 but shit almost hit the fan right before then, and then I suffered a few (ASD related, turns out) meltdowns and got sick while in Europe. I don't care that I went to Disneyland my throat was dying the entire time. Also 2016 just has the reputation for trapping us in the bad timeline so
2017 - One of the worst years of school I remember. Had another big meltdown in front of my entire year level. The teachers trying to shield me was...awkward.
2018 - Nothing special happened here outside my diagnosis. School after Research Project was great, though.
2019 - Finally donating all the hoarded stuff in the house and it's making me feel good so...this year wins.

School should teach you how to adult instead of how to solve for x.
I got no clue how to adult but I sure as hell can figure out what x is in 7x = 4 + 27 X 8.

2011, easy. My dad was still alive, I had just found Steam (and, by proxy, Terraria - that game sucked hours out of my life), and I helped found and run a site that thousands of people visited and I got to personally talk with and interact with a ton of new people. I even had a little relationship going.

It was such a good year for me that only really got bad by the very end of December. Dad passed away the next month.

The small span of November 2015 to the new year of 2016 was really good, too. I had moved in with a friend, got a new job, and things felt good again.

And, I guess, 2019 was okay, too.

power rankings, from best to worst: 2014, 2013, 2012, 2016, 2010, 2011, 2019, 2017, 2015, 2018

that is to say, a dip from 2010 to 2011, a meteoric rise from 2011 to 2014, declining from there and crashing in 2018, and making modest improvement in 2019

For me this is asking which year of my 20s I liked most. Hard to answer.

2010-2012 I was still dicking around in undergrad. Lots of drinking, smoking, vidya with the boys. A couple of friends moved out of state, but it was close enough that me and another buddy visited whenever he had the vacation days (couple times a year). But I really didn't appreciate the freedom I had at the time. These might have been a highpoint otherwise.

Late 2012-2014 was a definite low point. My parents stopped working and goofing off in college caught up with me so I worked 2 or 3 jobs at a time for these years. Productive but rough. Kind of figured out what I wanted to do.

2015-2017 went back to get a graduate degree, these were great times. Learned a lot, enjoyed the coursework, interned in DC and that was fun but expensive.

2017-2019 I've been climbing the career ladder in my profession, and I should feel great. But I accumulated a lot of debt paying for grad school and still supporting my parents. Different expenses keep coming up and eradicating my savings as my parents are getting older especially. And I kind of stopped having any hobbies after life slapped me in the face. So I'm feeling overwhelmed and don't have any outlets really.

I guess honestly grad school was my highpoint. That's kind of why I think I'd have enjoyed undergrad more if I'd understood the alternative better lol

Ranking them since it allows me to analyze myself:

2011
2010
2014
2015
2012
2013
2016
2017
2019
2018

The worst year isn't even that bad, just kinda uneventful + some health problems that eventually cleared up. All in all, not a bad decade. Kinda disheartening to see the last four years are at the bottom of the list, but it makes sense since I have very fond memories of high school and college. My work isn't bad, but it makes the days seem more homogeneous.

2019, 2018, 2016, 2012, rest

2019 i got in a really good healthy relationship, went on vacation for the first time in years, went to my first concert, and got to experience my best friend's girl giving birth and becoming an "uncle"
2018 was just a solid no complaint year, made a lot of changes, and refocused my life
2016 i turned my life around from being a carless, throwing college down the tubes idiot.
2012 i graduated high school i guess?

Rest were meh

The first half-3/4 of this year was really good.

The past couple of months have been a little rough but bearable.

So probably this year. Started work at a new place, get along well with coworkers, been more social, and me and my wife are in the best (still bad though) place we have been financially throughout our marriage. Things are looking good for next year as well, though work has been a lot harder the past couple of months and I haven't had a raise in about 2 years.

2013, by far.

Freshman/sophomore year of college meant that I had a lot of new freedom, got comfortable at my first job, lots of great games that came out that year, lots of hype when I picked up the PS4 at midnight, good Black Friday deals, good Pokemon release, great year for music, all of that.

2019 in comparison is in my bottom 3 so far. Sure I got my master's degree and nothing was particularly bad for most of the year, but I got into an accident in August that put me in the hospital and led me into a two month legal battle that I just got out of this week. Lots of uneasiness during that time by far and that's a major chunk of the year feeling like shit.

2017

Had two awesome trips that year. The first was the Abel Tasman Coast Track in the South Island of NZ with a couple of friends. Extraordinary forests, beaches and inlets there. Later that year did a trip up the Australian east coast for a bit over a month. The scenery was just as spectacular, especially in places like Byron Bay, Fraser Island, Noosa, etc. Met so many interesting people (many of them were British and German, they especially love Australia).
