Ignoring the fact you think millionaires are part of the 1%. The 1% certainly don't work any harder than the people working multiple part time jobs while still barely getting by on a day to day basis.

that depends on whether you mean income or wealth

income - almost definitely and even those of us who arent are pretty close
wealth - most of us probably aren't in the top 1 percent there

There's quite a gap between a million, 10 million, and 100 million. Plus we have a few billionaires as it is.

Most solid retirement funds should be hitting the millions. As far as I'm concerned millionaire is not synonymist with the 1%.

"The 1%" translates roughly to "not me". The exact amount of money is irrelevant.

Iirc only 20% of millionaires inherited their wealth

not that bootstraps comments are helpful either

some advantages, some luck, plus some hard work got them there and thats fine. Plenty of people work just as hard without the luck or advantages and they arent millionaires. Plenty of people also dont work as hard. Dont generalize.

Folks on the left crying that every millionaire inherited it is like when fat people say that their obesity is "genetic." Might make you feel better to say it, but it's still delusional and doesn't justify your underachievement.

the average wealth in the top 1% if you exclude the top .01% is like $7m

what would you call that person with 7m in wealth?

Oh come on. Anything can be "the 1%" when you literally manipulate the data like that. The average renter income is like $40k a year, so "if you exclude homeowners", someone making like 100K a year is "the 1%", too.

Nobody has ever got rich purely through hard work because we don't live in a meritocracy. Hard work can help your chances, for sure, but there's plenty of other factors.

if you don't exclude the top .01 percent the wealth you need to be in the 1 percent is still only about 10 million

but what you said as an example of data manipulation doesnt follow just fwiw

average individual income in the us isnt that different for renters vs homeowners because renters in high cost metros and homeowners in flyover america skew those statistics
