Ngl, in my opinion Sword and Shield isn't looking to be too good, they barely added Pokemon or much of anything. It seems to me it's a mix of Let's go Pikachu and Eevee, SM/USUM, and ORAS.

Least amount of idea conceptualization time, smaller team than anything that followed.

The "Sequel" games are actually filler though, so idk.

lolwut? Why you would you include a version that has more effort than HGSS?

Otherwise clearly they put more into SM/USUM than many of the previous games because the dev requirements were far higher.

It's pretty much just the Crystal/Emerald/Platinum/etc of its generation, though.

Gen 1 and Gen 2 are the only two games we know their development timeline for. Both Pocket Monsters (RGBY) and Pocket Monsters 2 (Which became G/S) took around 10 years to develop.

Seriously this.

...which is pretty easy to do when the graphics are a lot lower and a lot was recycled from the first game, right down to members of the Elite 4.

Gen 2 still gave us so much new content as well as quality of life changes.

You must actually be high. These are quotes from interviews on the development of HGSS and one from ORAS.

Iwata: So it's not simply a remake of Pokmon Gold and Pokmon Silver?
Ishihara: We were very greedy with the features we put in.
Morimoto: Yes, we were incredibly greedy with the features this time round! (laughs) We basically included all the game elements that had been in Pokmon Diamond and Pokmon Pearl and Pokmon Platinum Version.
Iwata: Features that weren't in Pokmon Gold and Pokmon Silver?
Morimoto:That's right. It's just as if we've taken a selection of the best features of the series on Nintendo DS.
Iwata: And in addition, you've also added the Pokwalker accessory.
Morimoto: That's why we had to make rather severe demands on our staff, which is something I hope to improve on in future.

Interviewer: Why wasn't the Battle Frontier in the remakes?
Masuda: This question is connected with my previous answer. We didn't put the BF in ORAS for this very reason.
Interviewer's note: In short he means that they didn't include the BF because only a very small part of the players would have fully appreciated and made use of this feature; nowadays players get bored and frustrated more easily and they aren't interested in things that are so demanding/challenging.

GameFreak has been phoning it in since around the time of ORAS, or maybe even X and Y although they have a semi-valid excuse for why those game were so lack luster. HGSS was the right way to do a remake, while ORAS is an abomination, and I say that as someone who dislikes Gen2 and loves Gen3.

By now they fully realize they can put in a minuscule amount of effort for profits that most dev teams could only dream of. The success of S/S will prove they can strip out part of the very core of the franchise while lying about the reasoning and the majority of their fanbase will still pay a 50% higher price anyways, yes I mad.
