Reddit has the option to get serious answers for discussion, but you got to find a community that's active enough to get a good answer and sometimes you have to resort to the more active subreddits that are full of people trying to get the most upvotes.

Reddit sucks. Most of the comment sections are pricks trying to be clever for upvotes. There's little substance. At least here we have gimmicks and shitposters that put a bit of effort into their awful posting.

Reddit is fine for browsing random links and memes but it's impossible to have an actual discussion, it's complete garbage and all the main subs are 100% astroturfed.

Gamefaqs discussions are way better. You don't get to have a discussion on Reddit unless it's part of a circle jerk.

Reddit is almost entirely better in smaller or moderate sized subreddits.

1. Reddit's viewing experience can be tailored to the way YOU want to see; GameFAQs' options are severely limited, but the new tag feature is nice.
2. Reddit does indeed have circlejerky moments with repeated jokes upvoted, but it also significantly better in topics that require serious discussion. Take /r/AskHistorians, or /r/Science. Maybe you want quality fitness advice, /r/fitness is there for you. You will never find rigorous moderation or good posts actually given that much attention in GameFAQs. In fact, the new changes to GameFAQs makes shitposting/ off-topic posts in GAME boards acceptable. People here would rather give attention to trolls and shitposts.
3. People on Current Events have weird obsession that for people like me can be a turn-off:
-boogie posts: who the FUCK is this guy?
-AOC
-Vegy/random users no one should rightfully care about
-WARNED topics. Once again, pathetic.
-tribalism: everything descends into a shit slinging between 2 groups.
-bait topics, like describing Joe Rogan as "Alt-right"
-troll posts/shitposts getting more attention than any other types of topics
-and many more

This. GameFAQs is like a fun, and casual drop-in-and-drop out game. People that post here everyday obsessively and talk about their personal lives are the worst, and usually create some of the worst topics. It's also the type of people that create alts to troll others.

Reddit is good for long-term, informative, and creative posts. There's so much to see, that you can never get tired of Reddit. But, the problem with Reddit is that the bigger subs are awful at containing memes, jokes, puns, repeated posts, and circlejerky posts out of discussion. It's almost always going to be the top voted post.

When's the last time you had discussion on Gamefaqs that didn't result in users competing to piss you off or derail the topic? Any time someone asks a question and wants a serious answer you mostly have to filter through a dozen joke posts to get to a serious response. Or if you discuss something that's current the first response is "Who?" or "who cares?" or "Imagine caring about X"

Also a big difference is that 99% of reddit threads live for a day or two. You cant really revisit an old discussion like you can by bumping a topic here.

Youre probably right. Im realizing the bias I have because what I actually do is just join the discord for the subreddit Im interested in.

I cant really comment on how discussions go there because I just use discord instead.

It's because a lot of popular communities are garbage. You have to find decent subreddits for a niche.

That's true. For general discussion apart from the trolls there are still decent users everywhere with good insight.

Discussion is not better on reddit, no. Reddit is not designed for discussion, so it doesn't matter how smart or how reasonable someone is, all that matters is whether enough people liked your comment enough to make it visible.

Gamefaqs is full of shitty people for sure but you can at least have a conversation that last more than 1 reply.
