And in a rather condescending way, too.

https://old.reddit.com/r/pokemon/comments/du52ka/swordshield_director_ohmori_maintains_that_the/
The missing National Dex is of course also discussed, of which we mainly want to know whether it will return in the future. Will there be an update or a third game? According to Masuda, Game Freak wants to continue the approach for Sword and Shield:

We now have no plans to make the pokmon that are missing in the Galar pokdex in-game available. That is an approach that we want to continue with Pokmon games in the future. Of course, up to now it has not been possible to encounter every pokmon in every game, so people had to transfer it from old games via Pokmon Bank to the new game, for example.

On the one hand, that is understandable, because Masuda previously indicated that Game Freak does not have the manpower to animate all pokmon if it also wants to introduce new game play features. On the other hand, Pokmon is pretty much the largest franchise in the world and it is not unreasonable to expect a complete Pokdex from the new parts. As a compromise, however, Junichi Masuda claims that the Pokmon Home app, which will be released in 2020, will be the place to collect pokmon from all games.

"Currently, the Pokmon Home app is under development, where players can collect their different pokmon, and only pokmon in the Galar-Pokdex can be transferred from there to Sword and Shield," he says. "But the way of playing is actually not very different from before with Pokmon Bank: until now you have always been able to meet only the pokmon of a certain region."

He continues: We encourage people to use Pokmon Home to collect their pokmon from old games there. From there, they might be able to take it to other games in the future. So take good care of your old pokmon, because you might be able to go out with them again in the future.
Reminder that Home is a paid service, so you're going to be paying a yearly fee to keep your old Pokemon around for the chance that a future game will support them. So, his use of the word "might" is rather accurate (though this article was translated from Dutch, so some liberties may have been taken).

I just wished the actual games had something to show for such a sacrifice being made.

Pretty much called that when it was first announced. This is to push people into a paid service with the bonus of they can riffle through everything for hacked Pokemon on a whim.

What fucking new gameplay features lol. Cooking curry? Man, yeah that must've been rough designing those different food models.

But seriously, I'm sure he's alluding to dynamax. But idk, here's a thought, maybe, just MAYBE if you have to remove features that fans like, maybe replace them with new ones that fans actually asked for, and not half-assed fluff that doesn't really add much.

Pokemon is ENTIRELY half assed fluff. We're how many generations in? It worked, and its not gonna change. Maybe next gen, the Pokemon can INVERT and change colors! So sweeeeeet!

So a developer is making a decision on their game that they are making and refuse to bow to whiny consumers?

Okay, cool. Let the market decide who is right. The producer or the consumer (spoiler: the producer will be correct because its Pokmon. It will sell millions)

Theyre making a decision and veiling it behind "constraints". Its flatout dishonesty, and thats not getting into how senselessly lazy it is. The only reason they do this is because they know the fanbase will just keep spreading those cheeks and smiling, WHICH IS SHITTY.

Sounds like youre saying "theyre shitty but if you complain youre even shittier", which is ALWAYS a dumb route to take.

So essentially, Pokemon Home is the players paying for their Pokemon to be held for random in the hopes that maybe, one day, they'll get to use them again. There's a legitimate chance that some of the less popular/loved Pokemon could go multiple entire generations without being usable.

This, and future generations as well. I'll stick to re-playing gens 3-5 and various ROM hacks of those games.

Whats the difference between Pokemon Bank and Home? Wasnt bank supposed to be for exactly this? Honest questions, Ive been eyeballing every new gen and always had to "nope" out. Its weird that my friends are getting excited for.....this. I just dont see ANYTHING to be excited about, aside from it just being another Pokemon game.

But even Magic has formats where people can use older cards outside of Standard. You can play standard if you want that ever-changing metagame with rotating parts, or you can play other formats (it's been so long since I played that I can't even remember their names) that let you use all of your old favorites. Likewise, Pokemon could have different competitive scenes for standard (AKA only Pokemon in the Galar Pokedex) and another for the entire Pokedex. Competitive balance isn't a good excuse to cut half of the Pokedex.

Plus, not everyone plays competitive. Some people just do different playthroughs of the story, like solo runs, mono-type runs, or other gimmicky stuff. Some people have that one favorite that they always want to breed an egg for and use in their first playthrough but use all different Pokemon around them. Limiting the number of Pokemon that players can catch in-game during the story is perfectly fine, but not letting other Pokemon be transferred in at all, no matter what, is an absolute joke. The only reasons for this to happen are:

- Lack of money (which is bullshit because Pokemon is literally the highest grossing media franchise of all time)
- Lack of time (which is bullshit because, even if time were the problem, they could take extra time and patch it in later, which they said they won't)
- Lack of effort

I mean, itd be one thing if these models and animations were a labor of love and earned the space they made by clearing out half the dex, but to me, these models and animations dont look any better than Pokemon Stadium, minus rounder edges.

Again, Im an outsider who was in 3rd grade when Pokemon hit HARD and havent picked up a game since Crystal, but Ive really tried. It just seems like the things being worked on are not the things fans want. Invisible abilities on Pokemon as well as demeanor are just horrible horrible additions that just make some Pokemon worse than others, being that there seems to be a pretty hard "best" for each pokemon. Ive never understood any of it.

Continually adding pokemon wasnt sustainable, something was gonna give eventually

As much as im not bothered much by dexit, due to the above sentence, i heavily prefer your suggestion over anything else... but maybe thats just me.

As much as I think that they should work on older Pokmon that need a buff/evolution, that would never work. Pokmon is a multimedia franchise. No new Pokmon would impact their tcg stuff, toys and whatever else they can use to make a profit.
