Or is that not a good idea? My younger sister is gonna stay with us for a while because of some home troubles, and getting her a bus ticket is really the least expensive option as she lives a few states away.

Do you think its safe for a girl that age to take the bus alone if we make sure there arent any layovers and someone is waiting for her when she arrives? Or would it not be considered safe do you think?

Greyhound is the fucking worst!!! Customer service is beyond shit, and the people are terrible. And thats just employees.

If she can Amtrak then I suggest that. But Amtrak will be more expensive, and a lot of times even more so than flying. Depending on how far shes going. Customer service is also lacking in this field.

Flying is by far the best in all respects.

Believe me... Ive traveled a lot.

I'd say it depends on where she's leaving from and where she's going to.

But even beyond safety alone, long bus rides tend to be hellish in terms of comfort/convenience. I'd recommend train/plane if at all possible.

Depending on how far away she lives, I'd almost suggest having someone drive to pick her up... but that's more feasible for a 4-8 hour drive than, say, a 12+ hour one. "A few states away" can be a huge difference depending on which states you're talking about.

I took a Greyhound from BC to IL in 2005. But I was twenty-something and Im male so I cant really say for her.

Teenagers travel on the bus alone all the time. I don't see what the issue would be at 16. Just keep in contact with her and it should be fine.

I've taken Grey Hound like twice, and both of the time, there were some ghettoass people causing trouble.

Not to mention all the sex that goes on in those things. I wouldn't want a 16 year old girl alone on that.

This. May as well get the missing person paperwork filed now. Lots of sketchy people take Greyhound because they can't afford anything better... so paying a bit more removes them.

Greyhound is just the method to export homeless out of states and into California. So if your okay with her riding with homeless sure.

Have you talked to her about this idea yet? Some 16 year olds would be comfortable riding the bus alone while others would freak out. A lot of it depends on how she feels.

would entirely depend on the length of the trip imo. i was taking buses all around the city at that age, but i wouldnt have done an 8-hour bus ride or anything
