Friend of mine teaches 5th grade classes (English and math), and is the grade's science teacher. She was an English major. They asked her if she wanted to teach science or gym and she chose science. Previous science teacher retired, gym teacher got arrested and fired. She was teaching 3rd grade but got sick of the problems, like having to potty train them or teach them how to basically function or having to see kids taken away for drugs or weapons Of course it's an inner city school.
