Ok, so gonna I'm gonn try this again, only THIS TIME I'm doing it with a Switch game that I know that I actually like, so I got a good feeling about this one this time.

Same rule as before, I need to beat it in 12 hours, although I think If I push myself I can beat it in less.

Feel free to ask me questions, as I'll check in with this topic every so often.

So I Always loved the intro to this game, especially the part where you get Cappy and Mario throws him for the first time! So iconic!

First boss is easy. throw cappy at it a few times to get rid of its hats, then power stomp on it.

Got my first moon by swinging chomp chain against the wall, then the next 2 by taking control of rex and smaashing a few walls, the latter of which was especially fun cause I got to do a side scrolling segment.

Then I got more moons via the 2nd boss. Was a lot of fun getting control of her chain chomp, and , and hitting her with it! :D

The Desert Kingdom is a lot of fun/ In fact of the levels I've been to it's probably my favorite, Got to the third boss. Was fun hitting her spikes back at her, and then power stomping her head. The icy underground area is really fun too, with the icy pyramid miniboss!

Hit the Lake Kingdom. I guess I like it, but It gets kinda confusing finding my way around. I like the whole use cappy for a zipper effect to get to to next part. I like swimming around as a fish.

Lake Kingdom boss was fun. Jump on his swinging hat, causing you to do a spin jump in the air, then stomp on his head. Common theme with these bosses, but it's fun!

So Up next is the wooded Kingdom. From my memory, this was my least favorite kingdom. What can I say, I don't usually like the woods, as I just find the environments repetitive.

I liked killing the pirhana plants and the Hammer Bros at least.

Boss was ok, but probably my least favorite boss up to this point so far.

Controlling tanks were fun too.

The UFO type boss was the best part of this Kingdom, and might be my favorite boss so far!

Man the first bowser fight is a fucking blast! Always wanted to Punch Bowswer, so this fight is a dream come true.

The Next Kingdom was a return to FUN! Especially loved being a wiggler!

...

Finally Matro Kingdom, aka as far as I had ever gotten, and easily my favorite area. So cool seeing Pauline. Plus I got to be a tank for what fely like most of the first part, and fight the magnemite type boss!

The remote controlled car was fun, as was the jump rope.

Also, man that awesome song sung by Pauline at the end.

Ok, from here I'm going in blind!

So I just beat the game, and I planned to post small bits here and there, but I'm getting tired so I'm going to sleep. Here's the rest.

Snow Kingdom. Ok, I stand corrected, I've finished this area before.

Round 2 with one of the rabbit bosses. B asically the same fight as last time only slightly harder. just gotta spin jump and stomp yet again.

The Race part sure is fun too. Overall, a very enjoyable area!

...

Seaside Kingdom, wow, another area I forgot about. Like Lake Kingdom, it's ok I guess. It feels a bit repetitive though. Nothing really noteworthy about it, and I was glad when it was over. It's the closest I've gotten to straight up not enjoying a Kingdom.

---

Onto the Luncheon Kingdom. OK, THIS level I've never seen. Man this levels environments are fucking bland!

Wooded Kingdom purple goo stpitting boss again, eh..

Man that big ugly bird is disgusting looking. Seriously!

Seriously, god so sick of looking at this level, it's the first level that I legitmately did not enjoy! I ccan definately tell you that I will not be 100% this game ever since it means 100% this area!

...

Finally we're at Bowser's Kingdom...er Ruined Kingdom, and mean, this started off awesome! Purple Fire breathing Dragon fight! It's probably gonna end up being the most fun boss of the game!

---

Ok, here we go, Bowser's Kingdom for real!

Man that scream in Terror as you kill the enemy that gives you your first Moon. It's a little chilling, nice!

Love the whole medievil China theme of this Kingdom. I also really like the Mech battle with the bunny bosses. Like the Dragon fight, it feels like it could have been the final boss. And at the end you kill them! Damn, that's dark if you use your imagination like I do and imagine them exploding to tiny bits!

...

Moon Kingdom, here we go motherfuckers! :D

Ok, there is no going around this. The environments are as bland as the Lunch world...on opposite day! Seriously, this level totally redeems it.

And dear god, the last 15 minutes of this was so badass! Cappy take control of Bowser, and you get to control Bowser for the first time ever in a main mario series game!

Then you get the ending tot the game, both Mario and Bowser offer Peach flowers, and she rejects them both. Cappy, his sister, and peach start to take off on the Oddyssey, and Mario barely jumps on the ship in time, leaving Bowser stuck on the moon.

Credits roll, and at the end Mario speaks to the player directly, saying very calmly...

"Thanka youa so much for playing my game..."

No Mario, thank you for letting me enjoy my time with you for the first time in over 20 years! Thank you for giving me my childhood back!

Wow...

:D

You havent beaten it unless youve got all the moons/stars. A game isnt done until its 100%. Good luck! Still about six hours left on your limit!

I think it took me 50 hours to 100% it on my first playthrough. Without a guide, some of the purple coins and moons are extremely hard to find. Plus buying all the outfits takes a long time since a lot of them are quite expensive.

If you're rushing through it, yes, but it's one of those games where there's a substantial difference between beating it and 100%ing it. You can beat the game with only 124 moons (probably less with glitches, because this is a game that's spawned a lot of speedrunning), but there are 880 regular ones to collect, and you can get up to 999 by buying them with coins (which doesn't actually involve much grinding). There are also costumes to unlock, some by finding level-specific purple coins, and some with regular coins (this does take some grinding, which is unfortunate because of how the rest of the game was designed without grinding being necessary). It's quick to beat if you rush through it, but there's plenty to enjoy if you want to take your time and/or keep playing postgame.

Nah, you cant claim youve beaten a game until you 100% it and get the world record speedrun for it.

I need to know, are you for real?

Again, I'd fucking hate this game if I had to 100% Lunch Kingdom.

If you're for real, you need to stop, as you're putting people off from gaming as you're making them burn out on games hard. Just because you can do an insane amount of side stuff in a game doesn't mean that everyone actually wants to.

Depending on the game, that's a positively ridiculous time commitment. Odyssey is a game where 100% is quite reasonable, given that the game remains fun right up to that point (aside from a short period of coin grinding for costumes). Many games, however, are not so reasonable, and getting 100% means going out of your way to do things that different quite significantly from playing the game normally. That's not to say it can't be fun to 100% them, but expecting and committing to that for every single game is just unreasonable.

Doesnt the word beat refer to when you defeat the final boss and see the credits screen?

For games with a clear win condition, that's the easiest way to define it, but there's often a lot of room for debate about what it means to beat a game. Most of that debate comes from people feeling that their own goals for what they want to get out of the game are the most important. In the case of Odyssey, I enjoyed hunting for moons and whatnot enough that I didn't really care about when I beat Bowser (although it was great fun) and just kept playing until I'd unlocked everything. Beating the boss wasn't my priority.

Happy for you, by all means play how you wish, and don't let anyone else try to stop you.

At the same time, don't stop others from playing how they wish.

Is everything else done at that point? In my years of experience, rarely.

And maybe thirty years ago thats what that word meant, but games are more than A-B now.

Beating a game has and always will mean finishing it and seeing the credits if they exist.

100% ing a game is totally different, or you can call it fully beating a gaming or getting all the achievements in a game etc.

But yeah, just beating a game means finishing it, it always has and I'm pretty sure it always will.

I was going to give an example of tearing random pages out of a book, reading it front to back and claiming youve got the full story, but I didnt think I was going to have to.

Well here we are.

Anyways, I only have about one-hundred moons/stars combined to find in my game. I accidentally bought twenty from a store with coins so Ill end up with twenty more than necessary afaik.

You'll need to buy ~110 to make it to 999, though you'll amass enough coins to do that just by making a point of trying to find some coins as you play (which is generally fun because the game's fantastic at rewarding you for trying to reach obscure areas).
