Yeah, for real. I've played plenty of SW games or games in general where you're running around as an asshole with a sword and yet, you're not chopping everyone to pieces. Doesn't really take me out of the experience or anything.

Iirc Jedi Outcast/Academy had to be modded to have dismemberment. I think some enemies had a low chance of having their hand cut off in the vanilla, but that's it.

I mean, technically it does. Just not to human-esque characters. That's should be a nice compromise, right?
I'm just surprise people would even expect that. Especially to the point that it not being there is actually disappointing. Come on, people. Star Wars is a brand that only ever plays it safe with their properties.

Pretty sure it's one of Disneys steadfast rules. Aliens are fair game usually as in this game but humans are not.

Plus it would easily raise the game maturity rating to M locking out a significant portion of their buyer base.

Now I'm not going to pretend that the most used cheat code for Jedi Outcast wasn't "realistic combat", but narratively, the loss of a limb in Star Wars was always viewed as a very significant event, and perhaps cheapening it down a way for sadists to get their rocks off on chopping arms off might drift away from the message the game is trying to get across.

Even in games that featured it, such as Jedi Knight and Jedi Outcast, the loss of an arm still happened pretty infrequently.

That makes it even more noticeable, though.

So many Star Wars games have worked like this in the past that it doesn't really matter though. And, from a business stand point, what with how detailed games are nowadays, that could potentially raise the game to an M rating (even if the wounds are cauterized) and they sure as fuck don't want that for a Star Wars game lmao

Yeah like I can count on one hand the number of times someone in the films lost a limb because of a lightsaber

It's not like Luke was running through the sail barge cutting off peoples limbs and shit

If the lack of realistic dismemberment bothers someone then I think they're in the wrong series.

I actually find it interesting that it hasn't happened in the Sequel Trilogy yet.

Despite it being infrequent, it does happen at least once a film in the first six movies.

Ep4 - Ponda Baba
Ep5 - Luke
Ep6 - Vader
Ep1 - Darth Maul
Ep2 - Anakin
Ep3 - Dooku, Mace Windu, Anakin again (what the hell was up with Ep3, now that I think on it)

"All the time"? Yeah, no. It really doesn't. Of all the times someone has gotten struck down by a lightsaber across all the film the number of times dismemberment occurs are left for very few key scenes.

My point is it wasn't really even much of a thing in other Star Wars games, so why would anyone expect to see it here? Especially with a play-it-safe-fun-for-the-whole-family property like Star Wars and the fact that the details in games nowadays could potentially hit them with an M rating (which they most certainly don't want for a damn Star Wars game).

It wasn't that the lightsaber *didn't* dismember, it just only happened once a movie until Disney got it's hands on it. That isn't an inconsistency at all.

Seriously, is there anything you *don't* love and defend about Disney Star Wars?

I get that people should get over it, because the fact it is more glaring is also the fact that in HD dismemberment becomes an instant M rating.

They can still complain about it though, and it shouldn't be surprising. This is the trouble with adults wanting a series designed around selling toys for kids to suddenly grow up for them.

Yeah folk can blame Disney for this sort of thing, but the reality is realistic and consistent graphic violence has never been a thing across the films and games.

This goes into a thing which was referenced by Lucas as long ago as the early 00s but I found has become more prevalent in the last few years. People in their minds trying to make the franchise into something it's not.

But what bothers me is that I swear you are one of the ones who has argued with me in the past that Star Wars *wasn't* primarily designed for children specifically because of the dismemberment. Maybe I'm confusing you with someone else though since I seem to always see you defending Star Wars whenever someone has a complaint, I don't know.
