but you remember how ubisoft games on steam needed uplay to still play?

hey yeah so does ea games on steam, according to that new boring looking jedi game coming out that already has a listing on steam

haha

Wonder if Valve apologised. They were the ones to kick EA games off the store and said they couldn't come back until they were getting more money (games bought on Steam could be seen by Origin and added to your account without buying there, DLC couldn't be seen, so it was instead sold and linked to email to use on both Steam and Origin, AKA no money for Valve from DLC sales). That kind of backfired. :P

Nope. They were fine with both, but Valve got a bit salty over 'lost profits', made a rule about how all content in a game has to be available through Steam and removed games like Dragon Age 2 and the original Crysis 2 until EA would put all the DLC up on Steam, screw the customers who couldn't use it on both clients if that happened.

Obviously, it didn't work like they expected (though they did get Crysis 2 Maximum Edition, Dragon Age 2 never returned to Steam), Valve lost EA games in the future, and they never tried using that again, despite stuff from Ubisoft and MMOs featuring content you need to buy in their own clients.

Damn shame too, EA wasn't making you run a client in a client. I would have been happier losing UPlay games. :P

It's the reason every publisher is making their own storefront, so they can collect all the profit and don't have to give a cut to a distributor.

Also, the same reason every media company is starting their own streaming service, because nobody wants to share money with Netflix and the like.

Which has resulted in shows being spread across lots of different subscription streaming services.

Oh, they certainly had their own store, but they still played nice with Valve until then as well. Didn't even force you to run a second client with their Steam releases. Valve started the break up with what I wrote above.

Funny and Ironic this happens right when I buy SW:BFII and play it thru the Steam client instead of Origin

To be fair, clueless executives were fucking up the industry back in 1983, it's really just the scale of the messes that have changed.

Unfortunately that just means games bought on Steam will require both clients at once.

I.E. Steam sucks and has sucked for ages and it's a good thing someone is actually trying to compete with them on a large scale.

Same, I'm glad there's competition now.

As a primarily console gamer who uses GOG whenever possible for computer gaming (cause DRM is DRM, whether you like the company putting it on your computer or not) and only use Steam when I must, I really don't get this Epic Store outrage shit at all.
Oh no, a game you want is on another website than your favorite one! The horror! It reminds me of console port begging, which is also widely seen as pathetic. But at least there's a tangible reason behind that: the large cost of buying another console and controllers, etc...
Epic vs. Steam? Literally just having another webpage to bookmark. Fucking get over it.

You know what EA needs to do? Offer The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection and The Sims 1 again. But they know if they do that, it'll cut into Sims 3 and 4 sales.
