Seems what they were thinking is have Abrams set up a blank slate then bring in an actual storyteller to do something real for the Dark Middle Chapter. That's why I'm not as hopeful for ROS because Abrams' shallowness isn't as appropriate here. It tells you when you try to mark it. That really was not okay, and "lack of evidence in trailers" and "it's obvious, bro!" aren't good excuses to be spilling it out there. Either way, I always thought it was a stupid idea to have different directors for a set trilogy, and TLJ had problems, but I feel the hatred towards that movie is so overblown. You can't make a simple basic movie like the other ones, because people want everything to be related and have convoluted connections to each other, and you can't make a super complicated convoluted movie because then the people who aren't star wars nerds won't bother with it. If one of these parties didn't spend 2 years whining about TLJ, this might be a more fair issue.
