Imagine that kids can do things when they are too young to know better. Also imagine when they are older but are still too young to have no possible way to pay for damages

that doesn't make things better

you're still poorer and less respected because of the actions of someone other than you, who only faces arbitrary consequences at worst

Are you for real?
Complaining about taking responsibility for the sour fruits of your inept parenting will only compound the problems you're already having. Whether the destruction was the result of carelessness or malice, responsibility falls on your shoulders because you should have already taught your son to respect others' property as though it were his own, and if you don't fix your mistake, you're going to end up paying for it again, and again, and again.

It makes a big difference trying to explain to a 3 year old why they shouldn't damage things vs. 12 year old. One will not really understand (just associating breaking things makes parents upset and that's bad) while the other one gets it, but can't repay the individual they wronged.

I don't know about less respected. Accidents happen, which is why it's not called an on purpose. I personally would have MORE respect for a person who tries to fix the problem than denying any/all responsibility for what occurred

Well, we could always absolve parents of all responsibility for their children by just taking them away at birth and having the government raise them.

This has got to be trolling

Obviously a parent is responsible for the actions of their child when theyre a minor. If you dont like it then maybe parent better.

Its not always the parents fault, though. Some children just suck. You could have taught them right and everything. But then one day, they skip school with friends. And their friends met some bad kids. And trying to make new friends, they hang out with them. And then maybe try weed or something to be polite to the bad kids. And then something bad happens. It might be high school and the first bad thing theyve ever done. Its probably not bad parenting...

When the kid is old enough to know better but still makes bad choices it is still the parents responsibility to pay the injured party. It depends on what was done and the age of the kid. If your 13 year old son messed up the neighbor's yard with his bike then if the neighbor agrees, make the kid work that person's yard until it is up to where it was. If that doesn't work, the parent pays and then the kid should have to do some chores for the parent or take away allowances, etc.

Im not saying its their responsibility. Im just saying its not always the parents parenting bad. Some kids just suck.
