I have that same experience except for the "me wanting to spark conversation" piece.

I'm always in and out there. They pitch the warranty and pre-order stuff for a few seconds and I'm like no thanks. The one I go to they're always super fast with their pitches too because they probably know the reputation gamestop has and doesn't want to steer into it.

This. It makes me feel like most of the complaints are from socially awkward people, because I never felt annoyed at their questions and it's always been like one or two.

Yeah, never really had an issue with them trying to update me on stuff ever. On the small occasions that something gets brought up, I just say, "I'm good," and that's that.

Yeah, same--although I'd say they don't even bother with the quick pitch half the time, but when they do it's just "no thanks" and they drop it. I think only once or twice have I had a pushy employee that kept going on about it.

Not making small talk while working those jobs might seem ideal to them but that's misery to people who are actually social. I been on both ends. I use to pray people wouldn't try to talk to me. But now when people don't react to me starting up easy to respond to small talk, Im slightly irritated. Very slightly but it's there. At the very least you can empathize with people who have these jobs. When people don't want to talk I just think "eh, they're probably not having a good day or something, I have those as well". Too many people here have specific expectations on how society should react to people and as soon as someone steps outside that, they feel wronged.

They ask each question once and you just say no. I don't see where the difficulty comes from. How do you maneuver any other social situations in life if saying no a couple times is such a struggle? Even when I had social anxiety, this was not something that triggered it. I want to bump into one of these forceful employees you guys are always referencing.

In one of my favorite interactions with a GameStop employee, we bonded over games that got cancelled that we wish still got made. Talked for, like, 20 minutes. Thankfully, it was a slow day for them lol

You're lucky then. I've seen and had others experience it in multiple places around the country so it's not exactly isolated to a couple stores

In retail it's understandable that they try to sell those (Especially credit cards and warranties as that's pure profit for the company. Employees likely get a bonus as well if it's like everywhere else) but pushing it after a customer makes it clear they aren't interested is just bad

I will say that at least they aren't deceptive about it that I've seen

Me neither. And thats including the several months I worked at a GameStop. The boss asked me if I had any questions on my first day, and my first day, and the very first thing I asked was if we had a quota for pre-orders or used games lol. She laughed and said that was just a myth, and that we didnt need to push either; just try to read customers and if it seemed like they might be interested in something, then we could suggest it.

Our phone answering greeting was something like Hi thank you for calling GameStop Ala Moana where we buy and sell used games, this is ____ speaking, how may I help you?
