It's almost like there are actual methods of accountability to use when the leader of the country is a risk to national security instead of just respectfully disagreeing and doing nothing.

Literally "almost like", however, because at this rate of opposition he won't be removed and the "coup" will fail. So don't worry.

Did read it, the actual legalizing would be done by congress, not him. The best he can do is "pressure" or nonsense like "effectively make legal" which is the same nonsense they tried to spew with DACA.

If Dems don't take back the Senate then it's not gonna happen. There's still too many hold outs.

Why wouldn't Republicans legalize marijuana? It's a wedge issue, and it smells bad. But it's not a wedge issue that wins them votes for opposing it anymore.

But how about a national ban on smoking in public places around people?

I would be ok with both of these.

Legalize it.

No smoking around people who don't agree to it/areas designated for it.

This is kind of already how it works here in California.

Mainly because private property laws and previous smoking laws apply.

Weed is still illegal in Texas despite it supposedly being America's closest thing to a libertarian ideal. The governor specifically is anti-weed but the biggest guesses as to why Republicans don't want it are:

1) Tobacco and alcohol industry lobbying (probably the biggest reason)
2) It does still play to the Christian base (not sure if there is polling on this)
3) boomers?

What do you mean? DACA is an executive order not to enforce a law. It is basically the archetypal example of one. President Obama didn't want to sign it while he still held out hope Congress might change the immigration laws because he thought DACA was probably unconstitutional.

But no, this is different from that. DACA didn't make it legal to be an illegal immigrant in the country. It just said that under certain conditions, you would not be prosecuted for it. If marijuana is taken off of the drug schedules it would no longer be illegal at all. No prosecution could lie against you even if one was prosecuted.

But um, DACA is actually an extremely dangerous concept. If DACA is constitutional, it's really hard to say why DARC - Deferred Action on Republican Corruption - wouldn't be. That would be an executive order directing that no one is to be prosecuted for any kind of corruption if they are Republican.

It's more like why casinos put in a lot of efforts to stop card counters at blackjack grinding out an hourly expected profit of $50. That surveillance operation is going to have increased costs by way more than the money they lose to card counters. But if you don't have the countermeasures instead of having a few card counters making $50 an hour you are going to have many card counters playing high stakes and winning thousands of dollars an hour.

There are a lot of people who smoke (and drink alcohol) because they are the 2 drugs that are legal and socially acceptable. If marijuana is legalized the tobacco industry stands to lose a lot of law-abiding citizens.

Casinos do not bat an eye if you are playing for $50 an hour. At that point you not losing money is a draw to make other players that are playing at higher stakes sit at the table and throw their money away.

I've never seen them act until players start putting black chips on the table.

You need to be playing $100+ a hand to be winning $50 an hour on average. The house edge on a $100 bet is like 19 cents for a good game.
