No. In most cases, all you're doing is hurting yourself, and if you feel so strongly about something you'd quit over it, you are better off trying to change the organization from within. At worst you get fired and you're just as unemployed as if you quit, but at least you'll be able to collect unemployment.

This is a worthwhile question but the answer is usually no. Unless you're forced to do something you consider unethical, it would be stupid to quit in such a circumstance because you're not actually improving anything.

Yeah I think I would. Only because I know I'd have no problem finding work somewhere else and can coast by without work for a while off of my savings. Kinda loses its meaning when I put it like that though. Seems to be more powerful of an action when you're actually putting yourself at risk for a cause.

Well the way I see it sometimes your virtues hold more sway than your paycheck and if you know you're getting your money from a company that is doing things you can't stand for, it might be time to work somewhere else. It's like a mild form of blood money.

This is a good point. Virtue comes at a cost and it would seem dumb to act out of virtue when there is no cost to you and no chance it would mean anything. Also no one would give a shit if you're not a well-known executive and your issue doesn't directly affect your work.

I wonder how people in government feel sometimes. The government has done a lot worse things than Nike or whatever.

Yeah I can't justify putting the well-being of my family in jeopardy, but I'd earnestly be looking for another job.

Now that I have a family to support, the bar for me to quit is pretty high unless I have another job lined up.

Striking is different because you're doing it to send a message and hopefully come back to better working conditions. The expectation is that you'll be returning to work at some point.

This is what I did when I found out the company I worked for did unethical things I didn't want to be a part of. I always refused to be directly responsible or taken part of any product that I knew wasn't made to API safety standards. But I knew eventually it would get me fired so I earnestly looked for a new job and eventually quit.

That won't help anyone if your company is doubling down as hard as possible on siding with China against Hong Kong.
