Current Events > Are people praising Joker the same sort of people who ass-blastedly defended BvS

...and Suicide Squad?

Joker looks interesting, and I'm trying to pencil in some time to see it in theatres. But the way I'm seeing "love it or hate it" commentary and Rotten Tomatoes criticism reminds me a fair bit of when people on CE would vehemently defend that turd Batman v Superman. Oh, it's Disney bias! Oh, it's because it's telling a story that those stupid mainstream normie """critics""" don't understand! People were so ride-or-die with that movie that they bought an extended edition and watched the same movie again, for three hours straight, with a cut subplot and some CGI blood. Arguably the same dead-ass boring fucking movie, plus thirty minutes. That would be like torture to me.

People praised it for being dark and gritty, a "real" comic book movie that captures the mood that they were seeking from a superhero movie for years - but most of the people who saw that movie hated it. the people who loved it were fanatic to the point of blaming secret back-alley deals for the movie's failure. This went on later into the year, with people "counter-balancing" the BvS reaction by dumping all over Civil War - a movie that wasn't perfect, but was better than a long, boring cinematic fart of a movie by all means.

Then you have Suicide Squad, which took an interesting approach to the team-up movie compared to Marvel but filled it with terrible humor, the worst Joker performance ever (live-action or animated) and characters so misused that the only bearable, fleshed-out member of the Squad was killed off at the end. It was better than BvS, but the way people barged down Rotten Tomatoes' door about the aggregate score was absolutely stupid.

Joker has a better critic score than both movies, to my knowledge, and a better user review score as far as I know. I like it on the principle that it's trying to pare down the overblown Marvel-killer movies by taking a more personal, low-key approach to film-making. Frankly, that's what they should have done from the start - or at least made these huge blockbusters that were independent of each other instead of cramming the Justice League formation into 2-3 movies. But people are still getting buttmad about Rotten Tomatoes scores, and they're bringing up David Schapelle's Sticks and Stones and like one specific reviewer that rated The Last Jedi well but buried the Joker movie.

So as much as I'm interested in the movie and looking forward to seeing it, I can't help but feel the narrative here is being jacked by a bunch of douchebags.

It's not as big of a reaction as BvS or Suicide Squad, but are the real diehard, Rotten Tomatoes-chewing superfans misrepresenting the movie like people did for both prior movies? Also, is it worth a $14 ticket of admission, or would it be more worthwhile to wait for the home release?

No spoilers - if you spoil this movie for me, I hope you get hit so hard by a truck that you turn into a fine red mist.

aight, cool. I don't think Joker can be that bad, what with the talent attached to the role and good press it's gotten, but any time Rotten Tomatoes comes up in a negative light in regards to a DC movie things start to feel weird. It's happened so many times in the last 5 years and I can't stand the jackassery of it.

The core of my concern here is that I don't want to waste $20 to watch a 2 hour dog turd that's being sold to me as chocolate, and have some shit-for-brains call me a shill and a moron for not enjoying it. I don't want to risk buying into any of that.

Honestly yeah, I was in class when I wrote this and trying to be funny. I saw this video recently of a guy trying out a trained hawk, and the thing flies out into traffic and gets bodied by a truck.

I generally enjoy Marvel movies and haven't really watched DC stuff other than Wonder Woman, but Joker was pretty good. Not even a little subtle, but definitely an ambitious superhero movie.

I mean its just showing people that RT is not the be all end all and to look a little deeper than just the score

I know that and you might know that but theres a lot of people that dont. And it just so happens that DC is a recurring factor in this

Joker is more in the style of an indie flick. It would still have lots of people that like it even if it had nothing to do with Batman. It reminded me a lot of Birdman with Michael Keaton. The Batman connection definitely got it more buzz though.

SS and BvS were trying to be MCU movies but simply did a bad job of it.
