I think it might have been a Clocktower game, but probably not

Had similar graphics to mid 90s adventure games, but I legit don't know if it came out in the mid-90s or if it was newer and done in AGS.

EDIT: It definitely had that SNES/Clocktower/AGS ascetic, as opposed to, say, RPG Maker

EDIT2: It was another one of those games I think I discovered because DeceasedCrab did a Let's Play of it, but I'm not seeing anything like it in his video list.

EDIT3: It might have been a Higurahi no whatever koro ni game, or whatever that series is called... or a fangame of it

You weren't really aware of whether Rena was a killer or not, it was just very heavily implied. You shouldn't take things in Higurashi at face value, though, because the point of view character is usually not perfectly reliable.

I've played a lot of visual novels and can probably name it if you remember anything else about it.

On a side note, the guy who did Higurashi just released a new visual novel like a week ago, if you're moderately interested check it out. Consensus is it's good but overpriced, but it's also part 1 of at least 4, and part 1 is ALWAYS confusing as shit.

Edit: also on a side note make sure you're looking at both the old Higurashi and PS2 Higurashi because it's possible you've played either. Sprites look massively different between the two versions, and one's voiced. The old one has a REALLY distinctive art style.
