So I woke up yesterday and felt a small dime-sized bump in my groin area, right on the crease where my left leg meets my pelvis. Kind of an awkward spot to see myself, but I figured it was just a bug bite, which I get a decent amount of since our house is so old it's basically impossible to prevent spiders and such. But other than a more unfortunate location than usual, I didn't think much of it.

Went to work yesterday and put up with the irritation every time I moved, and checked it again when I got home. It had grown to a little less than the size of a quarter, but again I just figured of course it grew, it was being agitated all night. I've got the weekend off, so no worries it'll probably be gone in a day or two if I take it easy.

Woke up today and it had swollen even more. It was ridiculously tender and walking was hard, and when I examined it I saw that it had not just gotten larger, but also worked its way towards my jewels. NOPE. I basically jumped straight into my car and drove to the emergency room. Called my parents on the way to meet me there in case I was going to need someone to drive me home afterwards.

After about an hour and a half in the waiting room, I finally got called back to see the doctor. They figured it was an infection, took an ultrasound of the area and found quite a significant amount of pus, which meant they had to cut it open and drain the stuff. >_< That was NOT fun. But the doctor and nurse were both women and were really friendly and professional about the whole situation (the nurse was kinda cute, too), so overall I'd say it was a pretty good experience.

Gotta say, that was not exactly how I'd hoped to spend my friday night. Luckily I had already requested this whole weekend off work, so I'll have plenty of time to recover and should be right as rain in a couple days. I've got a 5-day tract of antibiotics to take, but I'm gonna have to pull the packing out myself in 48 hours. Not looking forward to that, tbh...

So yeah, I spent my friday night getting my balls cut into. >_> Hopefully everyone else's night went a little better than mine. ^_^

You don't call your parents in for a nut sack injury unless you know for certain you can't drive home. Even then, i'd call my neighbor first.

I'm sorry you're uncomfortable around your own parents, but I'm quite fond of mine. Besides, it's not like they sat in on the procedure and watched. My mom is really good at speaking with doctors and keeping track of things like medications since she was my grandmother's caretaker for several years before she passed away. So she's got lots of experience knowing what kinds of questions to ask and stuff like that.

I recently had an abscess in a similar spot. Was a pretty awful experience. The packing is terrible, but it hurt way worse getting put in than pulling it out. Especially the second time they packed it, when it wasnt pumped full of anesthetics.

lesson: bathe more often?

I shower every day. It wasn't a cleanliness issue. Sometimes you just have shit luck and catch a bug. :-/

Yeah, I shouldn't need any more incisions or anything as long as I keep it clean and it doesn't flare up. Antibiotics should take care of it in a couple days. The doctor said I was pretty lucky in that while it was in the region of the jewels and scepter, it wasn't actually affecting them. Just around them. So it could've been a whole lot worse if I'd waited any longer to go in.

They're doing a culture on it to see what exactly it is (and they'll adjust my antibiotics if necessary), but it didn't sound like there's much you can do inherently to prevent it. I'm sure keeping clean and everything is helpful in a general sense, but like I said I shower every single day and that wasn't the issue in my case. I was just unlucky. Shit happens sometimes. :-/ Really, just don't be too embarrassed to go to a doctor. If you've got something strange going on down there, do not fuck around with it. Just go get it checked. Better safe than sorry.

I...probably could do it right now if I was really careful? I didn't ask. And I'm not particularly in the mood for it right now anyway. Every time I look at it I think of that needle and the incision... *shudders*

Happy to report that all is going well with my bells and whistle. Showering is tricky, but manageable. I can't really use the bar of soap or washcloth directly on the area, for reasons that should be pretty obvious. So I kind of have to get a lather going above there and then sorta push that soap down and around the area gently with my hand. It's annoying, and the spot's still gonna be a bit tender for a few more days, but it's doable enough. Don't even get me started on drying off afterwards, though...I either have to grit my teeth and bear the discomfort of using a towel or sorta bend over and spread in front of a fan for a few minutes. XD
