Saw two odd things last night.
I destroyed a helicopter, and it remained in the air, on fire, and stationary.
The pilot and gunners were still alive.
As I moved in for a closer look, it suddenly rocketed to the ground and vanished.

Second, in one of the early missions.
I'd just fought off a wave of enemies and triggered a cutscene.
While my character was talking in the cutscene three more enemy soldiers spawn out of nowhere then walk up and point invisible guns at me.
After the cutscene ended, believe me, their guns became all too real and they immediately lit my ass up from point blank range..

So they blew their budget on cheap celebrity fanservice, then published a three-quarter-baked final product with a bunch of physics glitches and gameplay problems?

Sounds like a AAA game to me.

All they had to do was copy and paste wildlands and make improvements.

It's funny how vocal people are about things like this, and yet, still go out and buy it on release day.

Then the devs look and think "damn, we barely tried and they still lapped that shit up... guess we can put in even less effort next time and still expect the same result..."

And on and on the gaming industry goes down the vortex of duplication and mediocrity.

Except No Man's Sky is amazing now

In case you haven't paid attention since launch

https://www.gamespot.com/reviews/no-mans-sky-beyond-review-reach-for-the-stars/1900-6417292/

It's basically everything that was promised, plus more. Which is more than I can say for any other developer who fails to live up to promises at launch. At least Hello Games didn't abandon it.

There are several games released this year that are far, far worse than any of those at any given time. Nobody pays attention to them though.

Although considering the sales and budget these games get they should be significantly better than they are so it still sucks.

I'm guessing Ubisoft wanted it out before COD and weren't willing to delay it. Watch Dogs Legion has the early 2020 slot and that window is already very busy.

Microtransaction stuff is the new Ubi.

I'm really curious, too. It feels like The Division and Wildlands had a baby, I just don't understand why that was their decision. I guess as others have said it's that "game as a service" approach so adding more shitty mechanics helps incentivize grinding to keep playing :\

But hey there are bivouacs!

That is far too slow and complicated for the AAA audience unfortunately. They'd rather unlock loot and get XP.

I miss when Tom Clancy games were proper tactical games with a slower pace and less over the top stuff compared to other games.

Mainstream gamers can't even handle Splinter Cell anymore.

Every major AAA shooter is basically becoming the same game.

It's boring as hell. And the microtransaction / loot box thing is egregious.

As for Ubisoft, all of their games are basically identical structurally, differing mostly in how the combat is delivered.

Rainbow Six 3's co-op mode where you and three other people had to rid a multi-floor office complex of AI terrorists was 10/10.

That's the extent to which I want online in a Tom Clancy game. The rest should be a good campaign.

True to an extent, though there's a very clear difference between The Division, AC, Watch Dogs, Ghost Recon and Far Cry. I feel like they definitely cater to different audiences. And they were getting better at mixing the formulas up a little bit in those respective series but since AC Odyssey it's been going downhill again :\

Watch Dogs Legion looks like an open sandbox in the best way so hopefully that delivers.

But like c'mon Ubisoft as a whole needs more variety. It's either really low budget stuff or massive AAA games they want you to play for over a hundred hours. Like the CEO was saying that Assassin's Creed Unity is too small scale for them now. That's scary.

Yeah and that's a shame. Odyssey was so bloated that I will never play another AC game like that. There was no reason for that game to be 60 hours long.

The classic AC games were *all* about throwing in a million little things to do >_>

Collecting feathers, flags, notes from rooftops, hunting, getting items off peoples' shopping lists, synchronizing at every other church and building with a high point on it, crafting items, collecting keys to unlock outfits, etc. etc.

I didn't know about the AC3 remaster though I'm curious if they changed anything or if it's just better graphics.

My game glitched, I couldn't use the scope on my sniper rifle but could use the scope on my SMG and the iron sights on my pistol >_>. So that was a good stopping point. Game doesn't let me alt tab :\

Here are some things I've discovered...

1 - The AI is fucking terrible. It literally cannot climb ladders so if you go on a roof top in an area that has no mortars you're fine. It doesn't know how to flank, so a lot of times you can watch one doorway to a building and take down a whole camp. Not always the case but it does happen frequently. Also it will get fixated on one point, so even if it's approaching an open doorway, it might be looking the complete opposite direction with its back towards you. And *all* the enemies do it when it happens rofl.

2 - The game feels lifeless compared to the first one. The setting is different - semi-abandoned island that used to host a US Navy base but now it's owned by a private technology company - so that accounts for the lower population, but damn does it make it kind of boring. You encounter random "homesteads" here and there but the people just kind of stand around. There are no random cars on the road, only enemy vehicles, and even those are pretty rare. Sometimes you see a few enemies just chilling by a single motorcycle in the middle of nowhere.

3 - The class skills are so fucking boring. I chose the Stealth class and its special ability is to drop a smoke bomb, confusing enemies so you can disappear. Except it takes a second to charge/use so if you're on Extreme mode (like me) and actually need to use it, you probably don't have time to use it. I haven't even used it except to complete class challenges.

4 - The regular skill tree is hectic to say the least, there's no real sense of progression with it (you can unlock skills titled "Master X" before "Improved X" just by virtue of how the stupid tree unlocks). The skills are boring here, too. Half of them require you to slot them, but you can only unlock three slots at a time, so you can imagine how severely limited that makes you. There's *nothing* like the first game, with mortar drops or rebel call ins.

5 - There are like no buyable cosmetics with in-game currency. Think, a couple of hats, a couple of sunglasses, four shirts, etc. You can discover some in the wild, but it looks like the majority are cash shop only.

6 - Helicopters go down super fast. In the original game you had to either use a grenade launcher or use an upgrade to shred helicopters, in this one you can just take them down with a regular SMG.

7 - There are no (or at least... none that I've encountered in my 8-10 hours of playing) fun side missions like stealing supply helicopters/planes or destroying comms towers or anything like that like what we had in the first game. This adds to point 2 that it just feels lifeless. You just roll into a place, kill some enemies and open crates for weapons that you'll wind up breaking down or money. Even getting intelligence from people and clues is worthless since it just points you to shit you would have found already if you just explored.

7a - Example - Most intelligence unlocks a spot on the map for you. I found one that actually showed me a treasure map, and I had to find the spot it pointed to. It was even called "Gambler's Den" - I was ready to break into an underground casino and kill some people. But instead, the point was something like an antenna farm that you would not have been able to miss even if you were at max altitude in the helicopter. So even this potentially fun treasure hunt side activity was just a more obnoxious "go to a landmark and open a crate" thing with no story to it.

8 - No one talks in chat. Maybe it's disabled by default? But I've gone to the main HQ place a few times and said Hello and no one is saying shit.

Running out of characters fml

9 - The weapon stat icons don't really make any damn sense. There are like 5-6 bars that I think represent recoil, range, etc., but they're not labeled they just have little pictures. And then there are another 5-6 that just have actual numbers next to them. I literally can't tell if the damage of a weapon is represented by one of the bars or by one of the raw numbers.

10 - The gear levels themselves don't make any damn sense. As you progress and your Gear Level increases, you find "better" clothing. But the clothing doesn't show you any sort of stats at all, just what the Gear Level is. So is a baseball cap that's "level 20" automatically better than a ballistic helmet that's "level 15"? It seems like these numbers only exist to help bump up your overall gear level, which I guess is supposed to represent how strong you are like in other games except I've felt like I've been the same strength throughout the whole game because it's a fucking shooting game where this shit shouldn't matter.

Ok so they *do* have those little side activities like Wildlands had. They are tied into Chapters, looks like each Chapter lasts 20 days, and every time you complete one you get supplies or blueprints or cosmetics, so that's kind of cool. It reminds me of the Battlefield 5 Tides of War chapters.

I don't know. They did the same thing with the Division 2. Not that that's a super great series to begin with, but the original one actually had a real story to it and you could see how this outbreak affected so many different lives from the collectable voicemail recordings and shit. With TD2 there is no story at all so you just go from location to location and kill people. It looks great and I love the DC setting but I was hoping for a continuation of the original game.

edit: And did I mention the character faces you can choose from are all fucking awful.
