For shame, a company that has made 30 trillion dollars off of books should know better.

If they are, there are also space wizards and space tomes and stuff

Which I guess could happen but more telling, there's also no fantasy section.

Which is annoying but I get why they do it. I just wish they would acknowledge this by naming the section "Science Fiction and Fantasy" instead of leaving it unclear whether they even know there is a difference.

Yeah. Star Wars is basically a fantasy series dressed up as a scifi series for halloween.

It does have a few scifi elements here and there though.

Sure, but they usually title that section "Sci-Fi and Fantasy", or "Speculative Fiction", not science fiction.

This again?
Star Wars is a space opera which is a subgenre of scifi. Does scifi and fantasy overlap? Certainly. Is something disqualified from being scifi if it has fantasy elements? Certainly not.

I would disagree. It has elements of both genres, but the overall premise and themes are definitely fantasy. At least, for the OT.

Well I don't know which series you're talking about, but since there isn't a universally agreed upon definition of science fiction, you can disagree all you want.

See, this is one chief difference.

Science fiction is generally within or bordering the realm of possibility and/or the unknown. Maybe there are aliens that can come invade earth. Maybe we can eventually build robots with complex AI or maybe even sentience. Sometimes there are a couple of generally-accepted stretches like FTL or time travel when the story otherwise wouldn't work.

But fantasy, by contrast, presents a universe where the fantastical/impossible simply is. People shoot lightning bolts out of books. A flying reptile spits fire out of its mouth. Why? How does this work? Where did these things come from? Irrelevant. Our world's rules don't apply.

I read a fantasy book where the plot twist implied that dragons were genetically engineered by a technologically advanced society and lead to a war that reduced civilization to medieval levels, and that the current fantasy setting was just part of a destined cycle.

So...

Right, this would be a reverse Star Wars situation.

I'm quite a fan of stories like this, actually.

Only hard sci-fi tries to stay within the realm of scientific possibility. Soft/General Sci-fi just uses technobabble to make fantastical feats sound scientific when they're effectively magic. "I reversed the polarity of the confibulator to shoot electricity" vs. "I cast a spell to shoot lightning."
