No accidents yet knock on wood with the closest being me almost sliding into the back of a pickup during a Midwestern winter. So I'll just go by that record and only having 4 or 5 (2 of them bs) speeding tickets in over 10 years of driving

DMV drivers are testing my luck daily though doing whatever the fuck they want on the road

I'm fairly decent. But that's more or less because I've learned from my mistakes.

Yes, but probably annoying, too. I still have a slight phobia of traffic even after learning, so I observe all rules, and I have never gone a mile above the speed limit.

No tickets, no dents, several averted accidents.

I would say yes. I use turn signals appropriately, keep a safe following distance, try not to succumb to road rage (it does happen once in a blue moon though), always check my blind spots, skip an exit if I realize I missed mine, and generally don't race around.

I've been driving for over a decade and have never caused an accident.

Yes, absolutely. Police officers pull over and remove their hats in my honor every time I drive by.

How long have you been driving? It's usually better to ease up on the rules a bit. Being an overly cautious driver can be just as dangerous as being aggressive, mostly because everyone else is a jackass.

Since 2015, and it's caused me no trouble. Part of being careful is handling jackasses, too.

Like most people, I probably think I am better than I am. It also depends in which setting- driving on the road is as much about driving skill as it is your ability to perceive/manage all the other crap which goes on (living or not), and on the track it's probably more akin to being particularly strong at a sport.

Honestly though I think I'm decent at both but can definitely tell I'm probably not as sharp as I was when I was in my twenties and I was actively doing track lessons/drift training/etc and practicing.

Just recently I foresaw and avoided an accident from happening. I was coming up on a red light in the designated left turn lane, then my left turn signal came on. Despite me having the right of way, I continued to slow down and eventually came to a complete stop because I noticed the asshole in the oncoming lane was not slowing down nor planning on stopping for his red light (had to be red, my left turn arrow was green). I sat and watched him blow the red and I took my turn afterwards. I should have u-turned and followed the guy, gotten a look at his plates and called the police on him. Maybe the guy was drunk, it was around 3 AM on a weekend.

This actually happened to me twice in the span of a month at different intersections. Fucking idiots looking down at their phones catch the slightest glimpse of green (the left arrow) out of the corner of their eyes and don't think twice.

I actually get really annoyed at people on the phone and are clearly not paying attention (eg miss traffic lights, wrong lanes, can't stay in lane, etc) and if they have their windows down (which they often do somehow), I'll shout at them if I happen to pull up next to them waiting for lights.

But I have to admit, as I get older (I keep saying this) I now understand what my parents meant by driving skill is more about how good you are at seeing and avoiding accidents than it is how fast you can drive/etc.

Yep, the one thing my mom said about driving that stuck with me the most was that I can be as good, safe, and educated of a driver as I wanna be, the problem is always gonna be other people and looking out for their mistakes and knowing what I have to do in order to avoid those situations from turning into something disastrous. Foresight, preparing for the worst, and not letting the nerves get to me.

Pretty good yeah. Been driving for more than 20 years now. I've gotten one ticket and been in two accidents. The ticket was cause I was young and wanted to get home for Spring Break. The accidents were both other people running red lights and t-boning me.

Great since Im innately observant.

I never hit potholes or road kill since Im always watching.

I instinctively look in my rear view when I need a sudden brake to see if Im in danger of being rear ended and how to avoid it.

I can typically gauge when someone wants to lane shift but is too timid to commit or signal.

I know what a roundabout is and drive on freeways and downtown regularly.

Im midwest. So driving in snow/ice and rain are things Im good at.

But I suck at anything requiring reverse driving.

Yeah only good advice my step dad gave me was always assume all other drivers are idiots do not assume they will do the right safe thing
