Lots of people talking about dat Bioware slide, but... Rare.

Bioware at least is still allowed to try. Feels like almost the second Microsoft got Rare, they were like, "Make games with Kinect, slaves!"

Yeah, I believe Rare went on record stating that they had much more freedom under Nintendo than they do under Microsoft. Hell, apparently they wanted to do a Conker sequel (a proper one), but Microsoft told them no, not until they wanted it.

Hell, Microsoft even thought that they got the Donkey Kong IP by buying Rare, which was cleared up in their very first meeting. Make me wonder if Microsoft only wanted Rare for Donkey Kong, and ended up instead with IPs they cared little about.

That was one executive. It wasn't the entire company. When the executive heard about the deal he asked if they got Donkey Kong and he was told no.

Not anywhere even close. Bioware is still making what they want, they're just bad at it nowadays. Rare is basically a hollowed out shell that microsoft uses for brand recognition to make shovelware

To be fair to Rare it does sound like Sea of Thieves is a lot better than Anthem.

But yeah they had a really bad run for a while. I think Viva Pinata is criminally overlooked though. I don't think Kameo was all that bad either. But that was a long time ago.

Tbh post-Nintendo Rare wasnt especially bad, just a bit average and, at times, uninspired.

The fact that most criticisms about Nuts and Bolts are it shouldnt have been a Banjo game is a pretty telling sign that the games quality wasnt its primary issue.

Microsoft also sucks, as a rule, when it comes to cultivating IPs. Its like they dont even try.

I'm biased and this is subjective, but Rare had further to fall to begin with and therefore it is Rare because of it.

I gotta say, Im usually pretty grounded and realistic about capitalism and all that, but one of the bigger bummers of my life has been seeing Rare, Blizzard, BioWare, etc all get eaten and diminished by corporate powerhouses.

Rare and it's not even close, they have not made a relevant game in almost a decade, and "sea of thieves" is a sad joke when they used to make amazing games.

Bioware still makes games and has slowly been going downhill but Rare did a nose dive long ago.

Bioware had to make DLC just to make fans feel a little better about a certain game. They have no idea how to give a real ending. So...them. :)

My vote goes for Rare just because their peak was so much higher imo. They were some of the best innovators in the 90s and early 00s and then fell into irrelevance for over a decade. Bioware was a great developer but I dont think their stamp on gaming history is as big as Rares is.

Yeah Rare is the borderline objectively correct answer.

However, people who were bigger fans of BioWare will obviously feel inclined to vote them because its a bigger heartbreak. More recent too.

Me too, and this right here is proof that rare has fallen lower. We still have at least some hope that bioware will put out a great game in a series we love.

Anticipating any good rare games lately?
