I want to focus on the social links (or "confidants" in this game), not upping my social stats. Unless you follow a guide, it's pretty much impossible to finish all the social links on the first playthough of a Persona game. I already played through the vanilla Persona 5 twice. For all the praise Persona 5 gets, I've never been able to even think about playing it. The design aesthetic is such a huge turn-off for me. Maybe it's just a case of grandpa hating what the kids find hip, but it feels like the ethos of the game was to make all of the menus and interfaces unnecessarily in your face, like it's trying way too hard to be cool and kind of edgy - and it just sort of winds up looking embarrassingly lame and kind of ugly. Granted, that's an extremely petty reason to avoid a game (maybe even worse than "The graphics aren't cutting edge enough!", but it's mostly discouraging because it makes me assume the game's overall narrative and writing are going to be the same sort of style, and narrative is like 90% of a game for me at this point. It kind of reminds me of Suda51 games in that respect... and that's not a compliment. "Hey, look at how rebellious and artsy I am!" has never really been a strong selling point for me. Nor does it help that it seems "aggressively Japanese" (ie, a lot of focus on modern Japanese pop culture, which is less appealing if you're not a weeb). But I also freely admit this is almost entirely based on advertising and hearing other people talk about the game. Most of the Persona I can fuse end up being too high level for me though which is a bummer. I wish they gave you more time each day to do stuff.
