Many areas still have unreliable internet...

Other than that, it will all come down to the power of the Stadia and the exclusives available to consoles.

No. Google's track record is shoddy at best when it comes to most things. Stadia will probably limp along for a couple years and be quietly killed off.

And up to 20% of the U.S. population has no Internet, to say nothing of the regions that are under the thumb of companies like Comcast and have hard limits on the amount of bandwidth that each user gets per month.

Streaming a game from my PC (which is no slouch) to my Nvidia Shield TV is literally unplayable due to input lag. And both devices are WIRED right here in my home. I cant imagine trying to stream a game over the internet.

Also, just a side note, Google is an abhorrent company and you should delete your Google account.

Supposedly internet is going to change soon, and Stadia is just getting ahead of that a bit.

Should be wireless speeds for phones waaay faster then needed to stream games/movies etc soon, even when you drop down to 4g due to using too much (or too much demand).

This will allow streaming anywhere pretty much, and services like Stadia will take advantage of it. You will then be able to create much smaller (systems) to stream, and I think in a fairly short amount of time you will see things like glasses that can be used as a monitor (3d even), or something you wear on your head that projects in front of you (allowing you to adjust the size etc).

You could end up being able to play games anywhere you go pretty much, including in VR, and including MMO's. In addition to VR you can have ER (emergency!!) Enhanced reality, that actually uses the real world as a backdrop for games (Dungeons and dragons in real life with spells etc that you can actually cast, whole new kind of paint ball/lazer tags etc).

It's just a matter of time really. You can already stream games etc to a cell phone, so honestly it's just about creating a way to allow people view and interact with the games better on the run. Once the technology is readily available for everyone, we should see rapid advancement within a few year.

I believe this will also help boost VR significantly, allowing for better control methods, more immersive play and especially more MMO like experiences.

So yeah, things are going to go digital, but I think that is just the start, we may see TVs and monitors become mostly obsolete, only used for family/group watching etc as well.

It depends on what that change is. For example, will it help the 20% in the US without internet get internet? And will it allow internet everywhere. We can get internet on our phones, for example. But if I want to connect my Switch to the internet while at work, for example, I have to use my hotspot...

I'm not an expert on this, but from what I understand 4G networks are continuing to expand, and will be used as the skeleton of the 5g networks (creating the initial connection) and as backup in case the 5g network can not reach somewhere.

Top end 4g is 500 mb/s though, and in theory you will get unlimited usage once 5g is out (That is what you will drop to if you run out of data etc).

Considering you need like 5mb/s to watch a movie, and maybe 10x that for most games (and I think stivia said it needs 10mb/s to give 1g/s or something), even the top end 4g should be more then enough...and unlimted for everyone pretty much at that point.

Meanwhile if you look at 4g maps at least in theory we should eventually have all of the US covered at least, which will enable you to play/connect etc anywhere. Because you can now play directly on your phones as well, there is no need for hotspots etc (I'm willing to bet they will eventually create something you can plug into a phone, or a way you can make your phone connect to a smart TV etc, and broadcast the game onto it as well).

So yeah, things could change fairly rapidly, 5g is supposed to be rolling out this year for most of the major carriers and at the start of next year for the rest. Could take a year or two for it really to get going, but by that time I'm willing to bet people will already be inventing stuff to use the new capabilities.

Hopefully they make something like an actual system to play on. If I wanted to play a game on my phone, Id play a mobile game. Im not worried about hotspot because of my phone. Im worried about hotspot for a system I can actually carry around.

Also, I know 5g is talking about reaching everyone. But will that just give those people internet? And Im not talking like just on their phones and stuff. But like for everything they have.

Cell phones should link to just about anything at that point, so you can play on a TV, a computer/laptop, an Ipad etc. Probably will have projection options or glasses as well etc before long.

There are a few .....restrictions to games you can play on/through your phones right now. The size of the game, the speed required by the phone etc.

Being able to stream though removes all those restriction and you should be able to play any game through your phone (but not on your phones screen, although that could be an option) that you could on any current system/pc etc.

The only last hurdle is getting the phones to sinc with alternative viewing devices, or converting one of the cameras (not like you really need 2) into a projection device, so you can literally project the screen onto any surface (I believe they even have a way to project without a specific surface as well. That being said, something as simple as a roll up tarp like thing that can be expanded to whatever size you want and hung on a wall, or use the stand it rolls around to set it up, would allow you to instantly have a full sized monitor anywhere you go.

The tech for all that is already available, there just has not been a need yet. Once there is, you better believe someone is going to make it and sell it.

Still not big on streaming. I'd rather own the games. And when you don't have internet, you can't play the games. So, I'm still not a fan of it. And I don't really want to pay another monthly fee for something... Maybe I'll get it if it seems worth it. But probably not. I'd rather stick with my consoles... for now...

Yeah, you can buy the games, or you can pay $10 to have access to all of them, and much like netflix etc, people are going to end up paying for a month here and a month there etc. Still not been defined if you can use the service (get the games) directly on your computer without the stadia equipment.

I am holding off on borederlands 3 for instance, so by the time it actually comes out in November there will be a few other games AND borederlands 3 for me to play, and I can play all of them all for $10 for the whole month (so mid nov till mid December).

Even better after that when games release (Cyberpunk 2077, balders gate 3 etc) they will be released on Stevia at launch (And sometimes before launch....as they were going on about for one of the games coming out..think it was a shooter).

So for me, it means instead of worrying about waiting for a sale etc, I can just blow $10 and play a bunch of games I actually want to play every so often for a month or so, then stop.

Even just borederlands, If I had bought it.....it was going to cost almost $70 with tax etc, but with the Google game pass thing, I can just rent it for $10 a month....i'd have to do that for 7 months to equal the price, and more then likely any future DLC etc will eventually be included, so it's like getting both the game and the gamepass all at once.

Yeah, you don't own the game, but you can play it to death, 3 or 4 times, easily, before you equal the cost of buying it......just with the $10 monthly cost AND you also get any other new games in those months to play as well.

Great deal in my opinion
