Didn't play the first one and know nothing about this one, other than its stellar rep. If it's going to be similar to Pillars of Eternity, I doubt I'll be able to make it through, but let's give 'er a whirl.

Pro-tip:

Fairly early into the game, you're gonna run into a cat. Make sure the cat interacts with YOU first, and not with a companion.

Also, there's a guard that will shoot the cat if you get too close. Watch out for that guard.

Welp, finished the ship tutorial. I got shipwrecked trying to save that bleeding magister everyone else ignored (my skeleton is an idiot), but I'm guessing there's a reward in it for me later.

I think I was the first one to interact with it. Dunno about the second part yet, but I'll be careful.

Killed some assassin dude who was after my boy Red Prince.

Wish there was somewhere I could go grind for a little while so my party of half-naked weaklings isn't constantly sweating every battle. Some of the fights I've seen so far are pretty dicey for my dudes, although with a full party, maybe it's more manageable.

I did find a lizalfos who sold me some cheap shoes and gloves, so that was nice of him. Also, this elf chick in my party stabbed this dreamer dude, so I got all his loot for free, lmao.

What do you mean, everything? Like cups and buckets? Or stuff that's actually useful?

Or do you mean steal anything that's not nailed down, liquidate it, then repeat as necessary?

I kinda wanna look in that one widower's coffin, lol.

Don't bother with junk like cups and plates, unless they're good or silver

But keep an eye out for paintings, they're usually with a decent amount and you can carry them

I got a few paintings on that ship, but they were worth less than a pile of beans. I did buy some spellbooks already, but my dude can't use 'em yet. Gonna make my skelly throw poison around, since it heals him a decent amount.

Is there anywhere to grind early on near Fort Joy? Maybe that swamp somewhere in the east? I think I spent several hours last night just walking around, then resetting when I found out that cat disappeared. (Pretty sure it got caught on scenery near the beach; it wouldn't walk in the water or something, lol. Realism!)

Nah you can't. And even with the enemies you kill, they don't respawn or anything.

Hmm, got up to LV3 on my dudes (elf assassin, dwarf, Red Prince) and got some skills. Is it worth getting that "speak to animals" skill? I figured it might help me with that cat.

Also, had a lot of fun going around pickpocketing people and fleeing the scene. Through trial and error, I found you can split up your team and have them make people face certain directions, then use your 4th person to pickpocket all of 'em. Lots of good fun, and lots of spellbooks disappeared mysteriously that day.

As for quests, I'm still wandering around Fort Joy. I need to get into the fortress or something, but the portcullis is down. Maybe I can shoot arrows at that one battlements ladder to get it to fall...?

Yes, the speak to animals skill is very helpful

One of the things I love about this game is that EVERY character is voice-acted, even the animals.

I don't have an archer, but I had Sebille take the Huntsman trait/skill during her last level-up, so I've got plans for her. Not a big fan of dual-wielding knives in general, even in games with backstab multipliers. Still, most enemies have long-range magic skills, so maybe archery isn't as useful as it could be in other strategy RPGs. (Or maybe it just seems that way because some of the magic projectile users have had a height advantage and that boosted their range.)

As far as playing an undead, should I be looking for that dude who'll use my faceripper powers to make another mask? Kniles, I think his name was. If I can't get back to Fort Joy, and he's only found there (unlikely), that'd be a shame.

Anyway, my long-eared friend marked some type of escape tunnel, so I'mma see how this turns out.

I'll have to consider that, then.

Currently in the prison. Tried fighting four dudes who were interrogating someone, but it seemed like they were gonna kick my ass, sadly. Went the other direction and broke down a door (lol) I couldn't lockpick. A thief's gotta do what a thief's gotta do.

Just got to the swamp, but I think I'm still in Act I. It feels like I've been playing for days in one town, lmao. I feel a little bad knowing there's no grinding, and yet I'm ignoring most fights 'cause my dudes are garbage, but hopefully quest XP picks up the slack.

Yeah, I've found some hidden spots so far. There was that turtle cliff overlook where that elf chick was hiding out, and that elf cave where Lord Withermoor (skeleton dude) was impaled on a wall. There might've been another one, but I forget. It seems that regardless, going through all possible paths will at least give you token exploration XP, so it's not a big deal.

Also, that cat survived all the way to the swamp. I thought it was going to secretly be a character I could recruit or something, but all I got was a summon familiar spell. Too bad I'm not playing as a summoner. =|

there are some more powerful spells/abilities that you can learn, and with the collars off, you can start using some of them.

you will need to find ways to add to the amount of source points you can have access to, though, but it's story related, so you won't miss out.

Also, while not as enjoyable from a story standpoint, a dual lone wolf run is by far the easiest. Aka only two characters, both with the long wolf perk, allowing you to max out summoning at the first island and have totems and demons everywhere, so you still have four team guys. Lone wolf gives you more points per level up and boosts your stats.
