We literally know his ethnicity. We have his geneology given in the new testament.

i'm aware there is such a thing as Christian socialists, but it seems hypocritical to me considering one of the forefathers and all around revered hero of socialism has a quote fondly remembered of him uttering that religion "is the opium of the masses." a phrase which, i doubt, you'll find on the tongue of practically any Christian.

Those who interpret christianity as socialist actually don't base it on anything Jesus did or said.

They base it on acts when the church members sell their land and do a pseudo wealth distribution.

But they grossly misunderstand the text because they didn't read out of the text but into the text.

Essentially rich jewish people sold lands to pay for others who did not live in jerusalem to stay there quite awhile and learn from the apostles and spread the gospel.

On pentecost, many who were converted were foreigners(not from the city, but jewish). An extended stay will incur cost.

A significant part of Roman conquest was convincing the locals that their belief systems were actually the Roman ones, just that they were using different names. They rightfully recognized that a cohesive group of religious zealots were some of the most dangerous groups in terms of being able to maintain peace across the Empire. So they squashed that crap as quickly as they could.

Actually not the reason these things happened.

In acts 19 it records of a large portion of the community burns their books of magic.

This causes unrest as it puts Diana the patron goddess of the city in a predicament.

That is, it ACTUALLY put the blacksmith and idolsmith out financially when business begins to dwindle.

They take one of the converts to the theatre and have a trial.

23 And the same time there arose no small stir about that way.

24 For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, which made silver shrines for Diana, brought no small gain unto the craftsmen;

He miraculously manifested more bread and fish through use of the holy spirit.
