We're taught to de-escalate and blah blah blah, but let's be honest here, it's unacceptable that it's your job on the line just for defending yourself. That's not right. I should be allowed to defend myself when a male patient gropes or hits me. Just recently we had a nurse get suspended for pushing a patient away after he tried to punch her. Tired of this shit. Hospital did nothing about it because what are you gonna do, the person is mentally unstable. I can only imagine what that must have felt like. One dude kept spitting at me and stepped to me, hands raised. I need my job so I had to run away like a chicken. Couldn't risk putting hands on him. Although, my favourite memory was a dude blasted on crank at 8am. Comes into emerge strapped to a stretcher. I go to clean his room (cause the head nurse said he'd made a mess) and he's lying there jerking off and singing, asking me to touch his hair. I said no so he starts spitting at me. I dodged rather well and just noped outta that room. Told the head nurse why it would remain dirty until he calmed down or was sedated. I still chuckle thinking about him asking me to touch his hair, heh. --- I wrote a horror short story collection.
