For the record I've never played a fire emblem game to anywhere near completion and don't typically like the series but I got talked into trying this one out.

The battles after the first seem to get significantly easier.

I wish menus were more intuitive and that character growth wasn't so much of a mystery.

Once characters start developing into their roles, the Blue Lions really take off. Felix is a great swordmaster, and Ingrid is a big ball of dodge. You also get a lot of early paralogues to help with damage output.

don't forget to give bernadetta lots of pitcher plants and armored bear stuffys to get her to join your team.You can also have her follow you on missions to rack up heart points (at support level b, other characters will ask to join your house)

make her an assassin so you get lethality bernie on all new game pluses

Blue lions is a good one to start with, although you'll beat the game understand literally nothing about any of the game's mysteries or motivations.

I thought you recruited people by being proficient in the stats they're interested in?

Those requirements are drastically reduced by ranking up support with them, and disappear completely if you get to an A rank.

you can do that, but it's much much more inefficient based on how hard skill points for byleth are to come by (since he doesn't instruct himself) so really those are just for recruiting maybe one student on the current path you're on

at b rank typically a student will ask to join your house in a cutscene in the middle of a month, I say typically because some people have said it doesn't always work (but it's worked 100% of the time with me on all my playthroughs)

It only didn't work for me when I tried to recruit someone that way in the final month (and then later I went on Serenes and discovered that at B support all I needed in her required proficiency is E+ so I could've easily still gotten her that way, oops).

I'm pretty sure I'm being slowly screwed over by levep up rng. Everyone seems to be getting +1hp and then +1 in some not relevant stat.

The way reclassing works means you can't ever be truly screwed over by the RNG. Some units may still not be great, but they'll always at least be serviceable.

Yeah when you reclass you boost up to at least the minimum stats of that class.

Also Ashe just kind of killed his stepdad last month. Hes still moping about it.

it was a lot of bad RNG at the end. everything rolled over in the area but the boss(Human form) actually crit Dimitri on an 8% chance(For like, 80 damage) and forced a Divine Pulse reenactment.

Then Byleth goes and ruins my exp spreading but it wont let me reverse that once the zone is clear.

You can take him down in all his appearances if you're determined enough. Whittle him down with Gambits since enemies can't counterattack off them and hope it's enough to put him in kill range for your heaviest hitter. You basically have to one turn it on classic if you don't want to lose anyone though because attacking him generally makes him mobile and aggressive once enemy turn rolls around.

One thing I don't like about this game is that a lot of quests abruptly place you into battle with no relevant story reasoning for doing so. Just abrupt cut to battle.

A couple story sections have done it and then Ingrid's paralogue did it.

It's really bad. The first few times it happened, I was convinced I had somehow accidentally skipped the relevant intro scenes.

It doesnt really matter. Just pick based on which silver weapon you want/with whom you want a bit of support.

The Paralogues are starting to pile up but its hard to justify choosing them over quest battles or rare battles.

The Paralogues give much better rewards than either of those.

One note about the paralogues: with the exception of Seteth, for paired paralogues you get an extra reward if you've recruited both units. So I'd prioritize doing the ones where you have everyone over the ones where you don't if you're planning on later recruiting the other character.

Just do all of them regardless. The unique item rewards you get can be gamebreaking.
