Board 8 > I decided to give Watch Dogs 2 a second chance

I played a couple of missions of Watch Dogs 2 when it came out, decided it wasn't for me, and let it sit on my hard drive. I decided to start over and try it again tonight, and I'm actually having fun this time. I think part of the problem is that the controls are different from a lot of other third person open world games, and that makes navigating the world a pain. Once I got used to them and I started being a bit less cautious than I was the first time, I started having fun.

I ended up greatly enjoying it, but I get the problem with controls.

Like, holy crap. My first attempt was boring because I got the wrong upgrades. I managed to get a war between the police and two gangs going by sending the police after someone. The police cleared out three gang areas, and I picked up the money drops in all of them.

If this didnt cost so much in resources, Id do it all the time.

It only costs botnet power, and that recharges.

Calling in a 3rd party is like the most fun strat there is, especially in hacking invasions--cause as much chaos between cops and gangs as you can, and then the person you're invading is too distracted/worried about getting caught in the crossfire to hunt you down.

I completed the story in both 1 and 2 but didn't do a ton of dicking around like this but it sounds like it could be fun.

No, I'll use your cameras to steal the key from one of the security guards, open the gates, and drive the truck out of your facility without ever setting foot in it.

Fun!

"Get into this area and do a thing."

I'll call some gang members... oh, they're either dead in seconds or they're not coming at all, plus you're calling reinforcements... and your guards have spotted me. Luckily I have this machine gun... and you're calling reinforcements that seem to be having a much easier time reaching the area than my gang members were... huh.

I might just walk away from this mission and find a bunch of research points so I can level up my gangs to the top level. I wonder if they'll be more effective than the first two tiers?

Ignoring the story, would it be more fun to pick up this, Sleeping Dogs, or the latest Just Cause or Saints Row

I'd probably go with Sleeping Dogs first. Just Cause 4 really didn't do anything for me, so that's last.

Saints Row 3 is still the best open world game. Especially coop

Just Cause 4 is extremely lackluster in most respects.

Sleepy Dogs has a great cinematic story combined with martial arts focused gameplay and is very very good.

Watch Dogs 2 has sort of a slightly corny but tongue-in-cheek story, but the gameplay in terms of hacking and emergent gameplay with interacting systems is unrivaled.

I've obtained every ability that might help in a car chase. I've spent points that I'd rather have spent on other skills on crap that I really shouldn't need to have. None of it makes a damn bit of difference when the game will just spawn another car coming in the opposite direction. The traffic light ability? Useless. There's never any cross traffic to cause a problem. Steam pipes? Good for a half second of gratification, but another car just takes its place moments later. Turn one of their cars into a wall or oncoming traffic? A minor setback that they immediately come back from.

This was one of the worst things about the first game, too. They've refined none of this.

Gunplay is crap. Certain skills (namely mass communication disruption) aren't working, or don't work until after someone has already called for reinforcements.

I don't know whose friend is working on Watch Dogs 3, but could you relay a message telling them to fix the damn skills, at least?

I think I'm getting towards the end. I'd heard of this bit, and I seem to be running out of evil corporations.

Anyway, I just got killed because I wanted to get up on something and Marcus jumped down. The game apparently doesn't have mid-mission checkpoints anymore, so fuck me and the time I spent carefully sneaking in, I guess.

I thought this was about sleeping dogs and got excited.

Watch Dogs, meh who cares.

You say this, but try to play something like GTA after this, and you would be shocked at how bad it feels.
