I hope this new movie doesn't roll back a lot / too much of what TLJ. For instance, I like the fact that Rey's parents were nobodies and I hope that isn't rolled back into her being a secret skywalker.

Kylo putting together his helmet again is pretty much the most disheartening part. Dude has one of the best character arcs in the series and they seem intent on fucking it up.

I think the "nobodies" twist is dumb swerve for the sake of swerving given how entirely guided TFA was to an obvious answer, but the very fact they treated it like a big deal and a mystery meant they were obviously going to do a dumb swerve - which they did

which is why they shouldn't have bothered retreading that whole plotline, we already got it with Luke we didn't need to go over "oh hey but this time she actually ISN'T related!" alt route for Rey

all the fan theorizing in between TFA and TLJ just phased passed me because "she's actually Kenobi's kid!" was stupid, and "is she Luke's kid or not???" is entirely inconsequential, with "she's Luke's kid" being an incredibly obvious choice that people would complain about it after how much a big deal TFA made of the mystery as a plot point

I do wonder what it is about Star Wars 7/8 that brings people to want to discuss and "analyze" them absolutely without end. Like I can't count the number of times I've rerun the same conversations with different groups - or even the same groups - since they've come out. I can't think of any comparable examples; even much bigger movies like Endgame have their discussions fizzle out way faster. But here we are nearly four years later and people somehow aren't vomiting at the idea of having another chat about Rey's lineage.

The easiest way out for them regarding Rey's parents is to basically give her the same backstory as Luke, only skipped a generation.

Grandpa was a Jedi, everything went to shit, her parents were put someplace safe where, unlike Luke, their true nature or lineage was never revealed. They never even knew themselves.

And it doesn't even have to be one of the three or four super famous Jedi we've heard of before. There were lots of Jedi. They were all powerful and gifted. Whatever.

Honestly it basically is this. Keep in mind that Episode 4 is still like the top 5 most tickets sold for a movie ever in the US, basically everyone saw it and it means something different to each person that viewed it. Those original movies are basically the bible, and the prequels and sequels are like the new testament.

Well, the newer avengers movies are actually pretty good. Character motivations are made clear, the rules if the universe generally upheld

After the release of Endgame there was a LOT of discussion (arguments) about the one weakly defined time travel moment/ mechanic. This kept going until the directors literally came out and said "hey, it works this way, but we took some creative license in this one scene to make it more emotionally satisfying"

Now, let's say the entire movie were filled with inconsistencies and mysteries, or that the characters never had clear motivations. People would be talking about that movie a lot longer!
