I think I'd be okay with getting to the cap in one playthrough (it'd have to be a long ass playthrough) but I still think I'd want to have the option of resetting the playthrough to go back through it again at max level.

You won't get to the cap in one playthrough, and can still reset the story if you'd like. But there are other options for leveling post-story, like the Proving Grounds. Some people have described them as being vaguely similar to the Rifts in Diablo 3. They're essentially a cross between arenas and small versions of Digistruct Peak. The more optional objectives you clear the better the loot; stuff like a fast clear time, surviving, finding a rare enemy, etc. They also added stuff like rare monster hunts, but if someone on your friend list finds a spawn it adds a mission to your game to force a spawn.

It looks like it's a massive step up over BL2.

That all sounds immensely exciting

Yeah I dont see how anyone could have an elemental shortage in BL2. The magic missile grenade was OP as fuck. It homed in on enemies, slagged them, and the grenade itself regenerated. With four weapon slots you can easily have fire, corrosive, electric, and explosive. Dont have a magic middle? Just swap out a good grenade for a slag gun. The Tesla grenades were especially fun.

This is also ignoring the fact that most characters had skills that could slag enemies anyway.

Edit: Even if you found a low level magic missile you could use that shit until the end of the game. Sure the damage becomes nonexistent but it never loses the ability to slag or regenerate.

Lmao yeah I never experienced what @biggernails is talking about . I played all three games solo and never had a problem with "wrong element weapons" for regular play. There are quests where you need to get X number of kills with different elements and you need the weapon for that but those are usually optional side quests with minimal rewards.

well I did

Sounds like you allowed yourself to be unprepared tbh. Not the games fault.

no? the gun drop after a boss of one area left me with subpar equipment for the next. that's not something you can easily remedy

You can't get a wrong gun for the first playthrough of BL2. Any trashy green rarity Jakobs sniper rifles found as you play will roflstomp the first playthrough. If you do sidequests you tend to outlevel everything anyway, killing most enemies in a single shot.

Yeah that's like one of the reasons why I like the Borderlands games, because you don't need to spec shit for a single playthrough you can just have fun. In fact I never got far enough where I needed to have a specific build or anything.

There's dozens of gun drops throughout an area and none of them would leave you I'll equipped for a first time play through. Unless you're using only one weapon the whole game which is the exact wrong way to play the game lol
