Not particularly because TBH the sound quality can be compromised on them very easily.
I used to be rather anal about what devises I would put a tape in.
Having said that, I still have all my cassettes.

I still want a improved version of MiniDisc.

That would be the ultimate format for music.

Imagine what Blu-Ray level data storage in a MiniDisc can do and how much music you can pack or next gen Blu-Ray like "Archival Disc" with higher data density fitted into a MiniDisc format can do.

Imagine having all 85 CD's of Beethoven's works reproduced by your favorite Orchestra recorded in lossless 32-bit FP | 96 kHz FLAC audio format.

Or having all of Michael Jackson's work taken in from Studio masters and properly recorded into higher quality onto the new format.

Or having all of "The Beetles" works and put into this new format with new remastering.

Ya I does. Particularly in the summer time.
Odd thing is it was 2017 or something like that. Like stealing CD about 20 years too late.
The CD book was one of the longest running items I owned that was in continues use.
I bought that in the 90's.

Of coarse, I had a good wool blanket and two Bosch unsued wiper blades that would probably get you more on Ebay. smh

I don't know if they are "coming back" but I'm a huge Madonna collector and know that the collector's box edition of her new album comes with a cassette tape, which I thought was both odd and cool. I doubt we will see them on the shelves at Walmart anytime soon, but yeah, I can see some of the more hardcore collectors grabbing them up.

Cassettes are objectively worse than CD's, Vinyl, and digital.

Their only benefit was small formfactor and cheap cost. Anyone choosing a cassette out of desire rather than necessity is doing so because it's fashionable.

I think I still have most of my cassettes somewhere (or they are in my parents' basement or something), but I'm not sure if I even have a working cassette player anymore.

They were cool at the time and I would still use them for quite a few years after CDs took over for like in my old car and to mow the grass or go for a run or whatever because a Discman would skip too much. I'd just record from CD's onto tape all the time, lol.

But yeah, it's a little past time to move on. They maintained a certain level of accessibility and convenience through the early 00's, but now a cell phone makes all of those features useless.

Vinyl Records degrade with usage as well, so similar flaw compared to any of the modern digital mediums.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phonograph_record#Preservation
As the playing of gramophone records causes gradual degradation of the recording, they are best preserved by transferring them onto other media and playing the records as rarely as possible. They need to be stored on edge, and do best under environmental conditions that most humans would find comfortable

CDs are inferior to Digital though, and digital is going up while CDs are going down.

The reason Vinyl is on the rise is because it is by far the highest quality physical product. The sound isn't actually as good as a CD but in terms of a look & feel thing, and how it's like to hold it in your hands and interactively do things like set the needle down on the turntable /feels/ good and you've got the covers with huge gorgeous art to look at. It's sort of the same thing as the physical game vs digital game argument. Some people just like to do things like open a steelbook and read manuals and shit.

The only time you will find a situation in which Vinyl is superior to CD for sound quality is if the LP is so old CDs didn't exist and could not be mastered digitally. Also this assumes no audio manipulation / upscaling. You'll find this with shit like 50s music and so on.

True some of the remastered stuff from say The Beatles and Pink Floyd, have things that I never really heard on their old records, which sounded just fine...as long as the vinyl was in good shape.

About 10 years ago I had about 300 cassettes I've built up since the late 80s.

Left them with a girl I was living with at the time.

I travel light so I didn't want anything weighing me down when I moved around.

I mean were still distant friends, but I haven't asked about them.

Probably ended up at the pawn shop though.

If you had a proper cassette with a Type IV metal tape instead of Type I Ferric-oxide Tape or Type II Chrome Tape and got a recording from a proper master, it would sound pretty damn good.
