I've watched reviews and I was waiting for it to go on sale because I just have so many freaking games to play.....well it's on sale 20% off, but it's still $32.....and the reviews have been mixed.

So those of you who have it and played it a decent amount, was it worth the price? How long did you play it (let me know if your still playing it if you can).

I have 20 or so similar games that I have not played (or just played a bit), so I'm really on the fence here. IF it's GREAT then I might pick it up, but I have new content to play in Dead cells, I have The Messenger, Guacamole II, Timespinner as brand new games of the type I have not even played, and 20+ games of the type on steam that I have tried but not played much.

But, and this is important, not many of them have grabbed my attention long term (obviously), only Dead cells have I put in 40+ hours in at least (and the new content is nice, but nothing major).

So basically if this game is GREAT, then it'll be worth it for me to have a game that grabs my attention and keeps it. If' it's just another side scroller metroidvanian game like the rest though......I have tons and I should wait till the price drops more at least.

Thanks!!

Shucks. The reviews on youtube are good, but the reviews on steam...not so much, but almost everything seems to be hated by reviewers now aday *sigh*.

Luckily i'll be playing on my pc, so the switch problems won't matter much.

Also considering getting the game Rad by doublefine, but may wait for a sale even though it's only $20.

I thought it was great and felt like a good Mish mash of sotn plus gba castlevania. Has a lot of stuff for 100% collector type people like myself, and just the right amount of direction without handholding and pointing where you're supposed to go next

If you like sotn or gba/ds castlevania, it's a 100% purchase

9/10; based on ps4 version

I'm enjoying it, but I need to learn to go back and save, not finding enough save points and keep dying and having to redo a bunch, which is quite frustrating.

It was great. 100%'d it in 66 hours (doing a new game on nightmare difficulty, with boss medals) and loved it.

And it will be greater still when the major updates come along. I'm patient, though. The pettiness of so many fans demanding extra content now, don't they have anything else to do? There's no shortage of great games out there.

Yeah, I hope I can make it through the game, seem to be having trouble with many of these types of games getting frustrated on bosses etc. Used to be able to do it all fairly easy even on higher difficulty levels but now I have a hard time struggling through on normal.

Anyway, if I do make it through, I'll wait for the extra content to play through again on a higher difficulty level, that way I can do all the content at once.

Fairly likely this will last me through Borderlands 3 being released at this point.

it's tied with RE2 as my game of the year (so far). i really liked it. took me a solid 20 hours to finish, difficult but not too stupidly, punishingly, indie-game difficult, ok?

i'm looking forward to the dlc, ok?

That game is great, better than SotN imo. Not sure where i'd place it among the other igavanias, though (order of ecclesia and both sorrow games are great).

Great game.

Reviewers complained that it was too much like sotn. That's why it's great though.

Steam reviewers probably are complaining about the glitches/crashes and the single player nerfs they threw in a patch.

None of that matters, it's a great game. There are 2 parts you may get stuck at though. Most did.

Steam discussion boards are terrible, though. It's 95% just the most obnoxious entitled whiners about everything.

Yeah, I'm learning that, which is really sad as I have used it in the past to determine if I want to play a game or not. I don't usually trust reviews since often people get free copies etc, and I have been burned before because of that. I tend to go to the actual people playing the game to see if it's good, what problems it might have etc, and it has worked fairly well in the past (at least warning me away from really bad games, or ones with bugs etc).

It's getting to the point where EVERYTHING has tons of negative comments etc at this point though....so not really helping anymore. I also check here (like I did) cause you are all gamers as well. I trust real gamers, but usually don't trust actual "reviewers" anymore.

I have never put any stock in anyone's game reviews. To me it only goes one of two ways:

1. I like what the developer has made in the past (not publisher or even the game series, that doesn't matter).

2. I watch some gameplay footage and decide for myself.

Never got why anyone cares about reviews.

I do watch video reviews, basicallly for your #2 reason, I see real footage. I do read board posts because often you'll hear about bugs, or the things people say they don't like may resonate with you and warn you away (you can't always see things in videos, like how the controls feel etc).

I am getting less from them lately though, but I usually still check them before purchasing.

It has saved me from purchasing something I wouldn't like quite a few times, and convinced me to get a game I may not have gotten that I did like as well.

Every game has whiners and trolls on the message boards. It could be a top 10 greatest game all time and if you go on the forums and read about it from the posts there you will find people bitching about it. Anyways this game is really simple if you enjoyed Symphony of the Night this game feels like Symphony of the Night but with a few new mechanics and twists it's a great game period.

I just find it funny that someone would completely disregard the thousands of reviews on Steam but then give so much credence to the discussion section of Steam. Like the thousands of people that reviewed the game were wrong but the 10-20 people bitching on the Steam discussion area are completely right.

Shrug, it does have a few things that might give someone pause. It's certainly more difficult, I'm only 2 boss fights in but had to redo them both quite a few times before winning...and that is on normal. I didn't really die much in SOTN when I first played it (course I was much younger then so it might have made a difference).

Still I am enjoying it, do dislike the fact that you can do quite a bit of stuff and then die and have to redo all of it again. I know it was like that in SOTN but it felt like there was both more save points, and they were easily identified (or at least where a new boss would be was identified).

The second boss (not really a boss, the sword guy), is just in the middle of a room, no warning or red doors or anything, I died fighting him (I had like 40% health), and had to redo a bunch of stuff.

Of course now I actually have potions on me, so that probably won't happen again in the future, but it was a bit frustrating.

The game actually gets easier as it goes along and you acquire more powerful abilites, the first part of it is pretty much the hardest.

If you don't love Symphony of the Night, it can wait.

I have 40+ hours and I'm on my 4th playthrough. Considering your attention span for the genre you could finish a playthrough before you switch games. I don't mean to insult, I also play 10+ games at once and that's how it goes sometimes. It is still missing the other playable characters and some other updates.

Man, you were not kidding about it getting easier.

Actually it wouldn't have been hard initially if I had used potions/food etc, but I didn't have any and had not bought any yet.

But once you get the flying sword, it gets pretty insane. I was already specializing in swords because they were fast (but not naturally fastest, so you got something out of the specialized skill besides damage). Once I got the flying sword though, which hits twice per attack, at ranged, everything kinda just started to melt in front of me.

Now i feel like I should have played on a higher difficulty level, except I don't think it was actually an option!!
