I dont think so. I mean Im no resurrection expert but I think getting a decent sample for species that went extinct a long ass time ago would be too unlikely. Then with more recently extinct species with full, intact genome samples available you could probably clone one into existence but I dont think youd be able to keep an extinction vortex from happening and theyd die again. So you wouldnt do much bring the species back to life as you would just a few individuals or whatever.

They have sequenced the full code, so they have it, so it would be more the down the line issues theyd have I guess?

Yeah basically they would have to inbreed.
But also the genomic data that they gathered, from the Dodo for example, was assembled from pieces of different individuals, each with fragments of their genomes intact. So just because we have the data, doesnt mean we have the physical intact genome sitting somewhere. Basically if youre doing while genome sequencing, youre using a computer to make a guess where in the genome that your fragments fit. So it puts together an electronic model of what the genome should look like, though it doesnt physically build the whole genome as its doing it, it just processes all the fragments. I guess we could maybe rebuild a physical copy to use in cloning, but I bet thatd be pretty difficult. Difficulty would increase depending on how small your fragments are.

Hopefully. Theres a lot of work being done with CRISPR Cas-9 right now, but its still not seen a lot of application in humans. Im anxious to see how things turn out...not only from a scientific standpoint, but an ethical one. It could very well be that we would have the technological capability to do these things, but that something goes wrong and our governing bodies decide not to allow it.

Are we gonna be able to use DNA to make Mammoth clones soon?

Kinda related to the first question. Im not sure where our mammoth technology is right now but Im a bit of a pessimist. I think theyre filling in missing gaps with elephant DNA or something?

Your kinda getting more into an ethics / legal question here than DNA. I do DNA and DNA accessories.

So whats the cool new way of DNA sequencing these days? Last time I worked in a lab (like 7 years ago) we had the 454 pyrosequencers and the Ion Torrent but I know sequencing technology is something that rapidly evolves

The newest sequencing instrument Ive had access to is Illuminas HiSeq. They do have a NextSeq series now that we dont have at our lab. Not sure of the exact timeline but theyve definitely been boasting the constant reduction in the per run cost of a run on their instrument. The whole genome runs still take a couple days to cycle and process. The funny thing is that Sanger sequencing is still really popular for interrogating SNPs and specific ROIs other such applications and is requested a lot by our clients. It makes sense that its cheaper if youre only interested in one target, but some of these applications seem to me like theyd be easier to assess and multiplex with fragment analysis. Lol
