But also the genomic data that they gathered, from the Dodo for example, was assembled from pieces of different individuals, each with fragments of their genomes intact. So just because we have the data, doesnt mean we have the physical intact genome sitting somewhere. Basically if youre doing while genome sequencing, youre using a computer to make a guess where in the genome that your fragments fit. So it puts together an electronic model of what the genome should look like, though it doesnt physically build the whole genome as its doing it, it just processes all the fragments. I guess we could maybe rebuild a physical copy to use in cloning, but I bet thatd be pretty difficult.
