I like the idea of playing with other people, but I would rather that be a "sometimes" thing that I can choose to do and not have to do it for end game and what have you.

I feel like every MMO Ive played most stuff has been soloable but if you want the good rewards or to explore the endgame, you have to play with other people

Elder Scrolls Online is definitely solo-able, because I've solo'd it. You can play through all of the narrative content alone with a somewhat acceptable build (I definitely wasn't an optimizer), and it's really only in the last region or so of each faction that things start to get a little tough.

There'll be a lot of content you kind of can't deal with (mostly raid dungeons and group instances), that are deliberately too tough for you (though you might be able to solo some of that as well with a really optimal build), and you won't be able to even remotely be a completionist for a lot of stuff, but you can still get hours and hours of playtime out of it.

If you like the Elder Scrolls games and are interested in the world, it might be worth it to you. But if you're apathetic about Oblivion and Skyrim and are looking for meatier narrative you probably won't find much there to really bite into, and the mechanics will start to become a lot more blatant to you (there's a LOT of "go here, kill them, get that" type quests, and it can feel repetitive after a while). Personally, I'm not super-invested in the Elder Scrolls universe and I got enough out of it that I played it to the end across multiple characters, but I have no idea what your personal tolerance is.

I've also heard that Star Wars: The Old Republic is pretty easy to solo in the earlier, plot-arc missions, with only the raids and such being too difficult to solo, but I've never played it (in spite of buying a copy years ago), so I can't say for sure.

Dungeons and Dragons online is awesome solo, while still being fun to party with friends on occasion.

It scales down the challenge on normal-elite difficulty based on number of players, and you have hirelings you can bring with you as well. In addition quite a few classes have pets.

The quests are very easy on normal, and you never have to do them on a higher difficulty level if you don't want. There are some raids though that you need a party to complete, but none are manditory.

It's also huge, not just in areas/quests to complete, but in how many characters you can play (that play differently) and how long you can just play one character.

Basically there are 20 primary levels and 10 epic levels. There are a freakton of classes, which you can multi-class between, and then the epic levels are in destiny's which you can each increase, and they carry over between reincarnations, and then you can take abilities from one destiny and add it to another (through slots that you earn).

Basically limitless advancement for characters. You can reincarnate which gives extra stat points for your next life, but increases EXP requirements, but you also get other perks for reincarnating as well.

Meanwhile there are enhancement trees, which again add customization, include a few that are outside of base racial and class choices. It allows you a freakton of ways to build and play a character.

Tons of fun quests to do as well, and even a reaper system for even higher challenges (and yes, you can still solo on reaper difficulty).

I've played it since beta, something like 15 years ago, and still really enjoy it. I just take breaks every so often like right now.

It's also free to play, although I highly recommend subbing (at some point, since it gives you VIP access, which unlocks all quests, classes, races etc, and 500 points per month (you can spend those points to open up quests, classes etc). It also allows you to open all quests on elite, which is the highest difficulty for favor multiplier (and favor is how you earn the points for the free to play system).

Running through on each server with a new character will let you test them all out, and see what class/combo you really like, but also gives you a ton of bonus points for purchases (Since you get a bonus the first time you make different favor levels on each server, on top of the normal points you get.

I always pay $10 a month when playing for VIP status though, because it gives you a 10% across the board exp bonus, 10% faster movement speed, ability to open quests on elite right away (without reincarnating twice first like normal), all the quests available (I own most but it's just easier this way then buying them) and some other stuff.

I usually sub for 3 months and usually am done by the end of the second...but it's the same cost for a 3 month package, then just getting 2 individual months....and you get an extra 500 points that way.
