It turns out that the more psychopathic characteristics you have, the less chance youll be affected by contagious yawning which normal mammals are unable to resist.

For starters, babies dont catch yawns children start catching yawning around the age of four or five (around the same time they start developing empathy).

In addition, psychopaths and people with autism (a condition associated with lower levels of empathy) are also less likely to catch yawns.

my yawning after seeing another yawn, is finally paying off, ok?

link? that doesn't sound right to me, and I can find studies that say the opposite.

Contrary to common belief that the yawning contagion is associated with empathy, it is in fact, more likely that perceptual sensitivity is to blame, research suggests.

People that can tell people are yawning are more likely to yawn when seeing someone yawning?

I dont understand how theyre defining empathy. Perceptual sensitivity seems like something that would also trend with empathy.

My anecdotal experience suggests that theory is bullshit, because I'm pretty easily caught by contagious yawning (I've literally yawned twice while typing this just from talking about it), and I have no empathy for anyone whatsoever.

I'm not a heartless person, but if so not sure why someone else yawning gets me yawning...
I get the yawns from others all the time, even when low/no empathy.

I personally made a conscious effort not yawn because other people are yawning after I learned about it.

I never yawn when someone yawns around me, even my wife. It's a sign of true leadership status.

I also willingly absorb as much pain from the world as possible every living second. I guess my empathy doesn't extend to herd yawning.

I would argue against it being an empathic reaction based on the following.

See an animal etc yawning on a digital device can still induce yawning in a human being.

Now emotions can be carried over a digital medium, but in these cases there are no emotions at play, just a body reaction. Seeing other body reactions, such as something scratching it's nose, or licking its lips etc, does not cause humans to imitate the reaction.

Therefore, I propose that yawning is a visual (and possibly audio) stimulation that triggers past experiences (yawning yourself) and causes you to yawn currently.

Another quick example would be that READING about someone yawning does not cause you to yawn, empathy though will often cause you to cry, or laugh etc based on reading about someone doing the same.

There is no empathic link to yawning in my understanding, although admittingly I have not done any research into the subject.

people seems to be a bit confused. It can be an empathetic reaction to catch a yawn, but it's not the only reason people catch a yawn. Also, if you think you're a psychopath, you aren't, get over your weird need to be broken in a cool way.

Like being ticklish, some people just don't catch yawns, don't make you atypical. It makes you a person, boring and simple.
