Apollo I think would have been a good option given his big role in the later games. Edgeworth still got my vote, though.

I'm actually (re)playing the series myself right now. I'm stuck on 1-5 (investigation day 2), and by stuck I mean at a spot where I simply can't figure out how to proceed because I feel like I've examined everything and spoken to everyone about everything I can, including all evidence. And I've played this game at least twice before and I feel like every single time this is the spot where I have to bite the bullet and look at a guide to see what asinine thing I have overlooked.

I got stuck there for forever the first time I played because the game doesn't tell you it added a new conversation option after you find it and nothing happens if you present the lost item report to Gant either so it's confusing

Gant is gone. I've already been in the evidence room and examined all the blood stains (even the invisible ones), and collected the SL-9 evidence (vase, glove, locker, ID card report, and lost item report). The characters out on the field right now are Starr, Marshall, Gumshoe and Meekins, and I have exhausted all conversation options with them, and no evidence I'm showing them is opening up any new options. Phoenix said something about talking to Edgeworth about SL-9 but he isn't in his office.

How long does each PW game take, anyway?

Leonhart could provide you with very specific numbers for how long each game (and each case) is, but the first AA is like 20 hours, and it kind of gradually goes up from there. AA6 is probably 35-40 hours.

The first game is extra long because it has an extra case that isn't part of the main game (it wasnt part of the original GBA release in Japan and is only loosely tied to the main story, but does introduce some characters that will appear later in the series), and said case is really especially long.

Basically, 1-5 is free, pre-installed DLC is how I've always seen it.

No, it's just a visual novel so there's a ton of bonus dialogue everywhere. If you just want to find the contradictions in the testimonies and find all the clues in investigations without worrying about the banter, you can finish everything faster.
