Hey, switching my vote to to Predestined Fate made the difference!

It's going to be painful to watch the amazing Ricordando il passato lose in round 2. Why will it lose? Because few people on B8 like pretty/emotional music anymore. Don't believe me? Notice how Clannad's Nagisa is among the retirees (who knows how many years ago). And then notice how a better version of Nagisa got whooped by an average opponent last contest.

Ah, a while back I had searched for music of that kind and the most recent emotional music that I found among the retirees was like five years ago, so I didn't bother double-checking when Ricordando participated. That's good to know. I guess the situation is a little better than I thought. I take back Palm of a Tiny Hand being "better" than the original. I just assumed most would prefer that one. Ricordando >> Nagisa, IMO.

i didn't mention this but as one of the non-tangledeep voters, exploring the shifting stones was genuinely one of my favourites to date and would've easily gotten my vote in any other match but poleva desert was like a 9.5 to me at least

it hurts to see it treated like it was, and i knew it would be but desperately hoped it wouldn't. it's like, people seem to be extremely quick to dismiss songs purely based off genre here. poleva having two key defining aspects to it that are inherently polarising on the board, each with minimal overlap here (classical and lol rhythm game), seems to have just given a ton of people (even outside the ones that openly harbor resentment toward said things) reasons to arbitrarily dismiss it regardless of how good it is at being the thing it is, its own strengths that made it setlist worthy despite these factors and all. not having a household composer name like zircon attached to it also didn't help. chamber chu? more like chamber who

credit of course to shifting stones for being given a chance to actually flex that as an advantage. another big part of why it worked out how it did is because a lot of people heard it and realised "wow i don't like zircon but this is a song i wouuld actually like" aka. it actually does appeal to present board tastes so much more than one would otherwise expect from zircon lol

in other words, poleva basically got treated as a nonfactor in its own match, zircon alone controlled his destiny

FWIW I thought it was the closest match of the day, I feel bad it lost by that much.

Also, some actual discussion I'd like to bring up here! As we approach the creation of matchups for Round 3 where songs will begin to be reused, a small realization came to me. Currently I have it so that each game represented will be using the song from songs 4, 5, or 6, that appeared earliest in the contest (i.e. the Winners Round 1 song). However, this creates a weird power dynamic where it's likely a song that has lost will play another song that has already won once. So, I'd like to ask people if they would be okay with this being changed a little bit. Here's the options I see:

1) Keep it as is. The luck factor is still there but it's easy to see what will be used.
2) Both games use the earliest winner.
3) Both games use the song that sent them to Losers.

I think option 3 makes the most sense from the standpoint of being a contest for the strongest OST, since it forces a game to have all of its songs win in order to take the championship title. Either way, 2 or 3 work because to be in Losers Round 3 you have to go Win-Lose-Win or Lose-Win-Win, so the song played in Losers Round 2 can't come up immediately again anyway. There's a similar situation that occurs with the 1/2/3 songs, but the only way to avoid winning with all three of them is to lose in Winners R4/R5 and make it to Losers Finals, so I'm not that worried about it at the moment.

If you have any sort or opinion, strong or not, please let me know!

I definitely think that 3 sounds like the best plan going forward.

I don't like any of those options, but I definitely don't like the idea of revisiting the losing song on purpose. Why bother with double elimination then?

In terms of the Round 3 I get the reasons for choosing either 2 or 3, but I really disagree with 1 cuz that can just mean a game can get doublescrewed by luck and I'm just not really cool w/ that myself (Bad explanation tbh but that's just how i roll)

I don't remember how it was done in previous years, but I'm not a fan of reusing a losing song so early.

Either 2 or 3 is fine with me. I would prefer #2 since you would think that it would produce better reps, on average, than #3. (or maybe I'm wrong?) I would give other suggestions, but I doubt anyone would listen.

Why not just reroll a new song from 4-6 so that it's totally random? That seems better to me than all the given options.

(new meaning it's a song we heard before, but the which song is selected is not based on prior results in any way.)
