oh I just realized i didn't even notice my atelier nom dropping. As someone where "music that sounds like steve reich" is like a top tier favorite category of music (steve reich is somewhere in my top 20 favorite musicians of all time (so is Kazuki Yanagawa lol)), A Road Full of Unknown might be my literal #1 favorite piece of music I'd say falls into that, so it's a pretty big deal to me !

also it's funny to me you commented positively on the instrumentation because I remember actually worrying you would DISLIKE the instrumentation of that based on your reactions to some other tracks in the past, so I am glad I was 1000% wrong on that lol

Song: Do Your Best!
Game: Custom Robo
Composer: Takayuki Nakamura
Nominator: FL81
Score: 82 (3.8/4.2/4/4.4)
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BEtxEENvXo

i cannot explain HOW MUCH this sounds like it should be in lumines it just literally oozes that style the use of short melodic elements that repeat st seemingly random intervals (in lumines it would be controlled by player action) and the Rhodes synth sounding + scremaing trumpet samples the lumines color scheme level design of this song is it looks like traffic in gridlock
i like the little bits in this song where its dissonant like the little chord at 0:15 and really just that whole 4 bar section is really good
the only thing really holding this back is its shortness imo and the regularity at which things happen its such a delightful sound though

hi YES i like the vaguely sombre empty wilderness but also wide open opportunity mood of this song and i LOVE the instrumentation WOW.i really like how the percussion throughout the song Tone paints the imagery of being on a train (except in the bridge...i guess the train stopped for a little rest which makes sense because the key also changes and the arrangement is more subdued and it's LOVELY)
i never had spirit tracks but i DID have smash 3ds and you bet your BUTTOCKS i had this song set on my smash run playlist (what a weird mode thinking about it now but it was very fun) had a lot of nostalgia for this song becuase of that

Song: Opening, Snakeman Stage (2A03+VRC7 mix)
Game/Album: Chiptuned Rockman
Original Track: Opening, Snake Man Stage - Mega Man 3
Composer: Yasuaki Fujita
Arranger: KPLECRAFT
Nominator: th3l3fty
Score: 82 (3/4/4.8/4.6)
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8huDYS72xQ

hi it's KPLECRAFT who made uwabami.
*listens to it*
yes this sounds like it especially here 0:30 and here 2:12 and here 2:57 and here 3:50 and guess what those are the best parts. i like Kylecraft who embraces arpeggios of weird discordant chords and atonality leading lines and frequently modulating non tonalcentered trancisions
the rest of this is Megan man which is NOT BAD but also not that really good it's just a melody 58395 times. i do like how much flair they rwere able to add with the tiny arp sounds and bleep bloops + solos and the chords themselves but gosb there's not too much here to work with imo kple caries the whole song
2:45 sounds like Luna ascension at dooms gate : )
i like how this like uwabami sounds like you are playing a video game and you start it up and play a few rounds and menus and then you die game over.really appeals to my gaming

they played this one at the game awards when they were doing the medley of nominees and i was like wow i know that song @_@
this is such a lovely slow hard rocking track it sounds like if you took the early 2000s music and slowed it down or sped it up
really weird because it sounds like the song is really big when theres really not that many instruments but i think its probably one of those room effects that musicians like to EQ
as usually i dont pay attention to the lyrics and i really dk what hes talking about. funny how he rhymes so long with so gone and saudade thats pretty lazy and funny hee hee
phrasing of this is also strange theres like chorus one verse chorus one verse chorus but then chorus again and a solo and then a chorus? like normaly you would have the solo after the post-second verse chorus imo the phrase is stranging especially bc at 2:32-2:44 there is this weird instrumental break but nothing happens and he just does the prechorus again
musically boring because nothing happens but still pretty fun

yeah i like the menu
constant 1 and 3 pulse is really cool this feels like to me a mix between kamome sanos chiller stuff and some of the chiller side of french house. i love the vocal???s throughout
the drop at 1:22 is really good. the bassline directly following it is amazing as well. a minor gripe i have with this is how long section loops are (16 bars i think without really counting) before entering the next section
2:25 IS THE COOLEST THING IN THIS SONG EVER. THE EIGTH NOTE BREAK OUT OF NOWHERE INTO A COMPLETELY NEW SECTION...THROWS YOU OFF THE RHYTHM AND THE NEW TONE MAKES ME GO WOAH!!! the little intro the new section has as well is super disorienting in terms of feeling the beat and its amazing to have to readjust to it.
3:12 the back sounds like justice doing things, 0:39 sounds llike kamome sano doing things. i do like how the first section reenters in the fadeout of the lattter

chiptune that is a real music song and has real guitaars and bitcrush drums. wow anamanaguchi music sure sounds like anamanaguchi (mega man 2 hd deluxe edition). the melody in this is sometimes singable and sometimes its not, but most of the time it is/!! 0:09 through 0:28 is the coolest melody in my opinion part. section right after it is weird bceausae i like where it starts and ends but the middle has these chords that become major and okay, but i think it would be cooler if they were minor.
1:07 breakdown!!!! reintroduce the introductory rhythmic three note sting with a doom-lite bassline and throw it back into the ACTUAL intro is a cool idea to make your song loop coolly, which it does!! really get that headbanging feel from this one but only on every other beats

[sequential repetition on increasingly lower starting pitches over a period of four bars] repeat ad infinitum (this means until 2:32 but not really because the chords are still implied underneath the silence and then it comes back anyway but in a slightly modified form.A!!!) notwithstanding melody composition i like the progression of this piece. the addition of new instruments and/or harmonization techniques per each fourbar period is well done and makes the most out of the short melody#justchrischristodoulouthings
second half i like better just because of how big it soounds compared to the first...the arrangement just seems fuller

like the little repeated phrase introduced, and love the bassline especially at 0:28-0:40. it goes into a solo after that but it's not the greatestyou know what is the greatest? the short piano phrase during that same section (to0:34) its syncopated and largely intervalled and cool
the energy contained within this is rollicking, i love it. constant hihat on 16ths helps with that a lot
do NOT like the harsh guitar (?) stings that come in starting at 0:16 like why are u just a Pokemon cry

my notes from the summer say i dont like the vocals. that's a lie i like them they're very like wooaaah
"jazz"" and "rhythm game" picture next to these words in the dictionary is this song, dissonant with synth lead but!!! somewhere in the middle the chords become normal people chords (major) instead of weird people chords (cool)
the drums in the intro to this are good i have this weird penchant for like that concentrated group of four 32nd notes anachronising, it's really good
the entire song up until 1:47 has got this super tense feel like you don't exist in a metaphysical sense while listening to it, then major chords hit amd you're like, oh yeah im alive
starting at 0:22 in the backing theres this super distorted (?)guitar sound on the down beat which i really enjoy adding to the atmosphere
0:55-1:07 is actually in 11/8 (5/8+6/8) which i didnt even notice until i tried to feel out the beat i just thought it was some ambiguous 4/4 phrase but no its actually just done really seamlessly i love how the backing track comes in on what seems like unexpected beats
that synth solo and the one at 2:06 are really cool and outside the scale of the song which is lovely
the ending sucks!! give me more tension

bemani genre EPIC ROCK wow
LOVE the intro on this its the super chill style of opener i love...would have liked if it was all like that but the direction it goes instead is absolutely cool...in a dfferent way
0:24 the little chromatic triplets is so good
the style of the rest of the song overall really is just a JRPG battle theme but it feels really well done...i love how the dueling guitar leads sound, and then the semi-acoustic sounding one that pops in sometimes to restate the opening phrase
1:08 is gorgeous 3/4+5/4 guitar solo that sounds like a modern fire emblem game like fates i like it a lot
the solo at 1:57 is amazing the 16ths shredding improvisation is so much good musicianship and its followed up by this little syncopated sting at 2:13 that is so fucking jazz dude its great
the melody which i assume is lifted from the original game
i really cant get over the way this opens it sounds like in going to listen to jazz fusion prog but its super cool rock instead

having a fun time with the melancholy of this song chords are always minor and SAD until they are a little bit major but still mostly in your heart panging like the disney pixar short bao.
the flute solo is so gorgeous even if its only like 2 bars lol i like it when soloists outline a chord seven times and then hit some note in like the octabve above it

the breakdown section is also nice but i do think i prefer the part where the song has drums a little more actually now that i think about it without the drums its a lot more cathartic to try to feel the beat so idk.both are great!

lol at all the people waving their idol sticks to such a morose and balladic song lool lololol
this is the same song as chrono trigger to far away times its melacholy and hopefull...the vocalist is rly good at expressing these emotions imo
oh MAN the pre-chorus from 1:23 is lovely, like the notes of anticipation in her voice even as we are in the actual chorus...when you feel the notes will resolve but they dont and go into this chord thats like the OPPOSITE of a piccardy third..will henceforth be referringto this chord movement as that good s*it

1:56-2;18she does this modulation (i think ) which isreally good
anyway these things happenall around the song especially in the last one and i cry really hard about this song

a yack song...naturally it focuses more on environment...i like it! it honestly feels lacking in something that i cant pinpoint, but that might just be all shmup songs
i think 1:11 is really cool! underlying chords are really funky and i enjoy the funk, melody on top is quite nice as well

the overall sound design is very futuristic and cool and i normally like that but idont like this specifically for whatever reason? it sounds stale especially the lead sound and the constant 16th pulsing percussion...might be burned out on this so i might have to listen to 13423 nekomatamaster songs

SWELL DAY FOR A BATTLE...BEGIN *me when vgmc starts)

Yes i like big band latin rytm jazzyes i listen to jazz for fun.this song is great HOOOOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOOOT HOOHOOT HOOHOOOHOOOT
it cranks up at 0:50 with the first solo and only gets better from there...i love that the music in this game goes like the actual jazz thing and starts with a head and then just goes with a million solos in b etween (2:00 trumpets, 0:50 piano,...its really thats what makes jazz for me
1:42 idk whats happening? trumpets arent all together or maybe they should have not been put even but it sounds very muddled
2:38 the reintegration of the main line is good idk if it had a pickup before probably did but it feels weird to actually hear it.

my only gripe is its presented as real jazz but is too short to be real jazz be longer

OH YEAH also theres no bass whats up with that

ughhhhhhhh

i actually like this song quite a bit. tobys strength is in his ability to use melodic lines in varying ways and this is done a bunch here, with the introduction of the melody on its own, then the rest of the backing, and when it later drops out, being used to supplement newmelodic sections by way of the harmony and then it literally just being added back in like at 0:40 lol

this also makes itcooler when he leaves the expected 4-chord progression to go into other chords that arent like legally weird but are weird by theirbeing not in the four-chord progression

is this what they call environmental storytelling?i guess not but theres like a huge amount of inference this is really good at delivering information without telling it directly...its also like phineas and ferb because of how the storylines converge at a moment and cause utter chaos thats my favorite trope...

i dont know if i wouldve liked any of these stories on their own its just about the ridiculousness together that they cause...the one where the guy kills his wife might be the craziest on its own

i also love the sound design like you can hear the restaurant and general buzz behind patrice as well as the ending..3:47 is so funny lol the lightbulb guy failing to put down the receiver shows his comedic value
worst part of the sound design is the realism of the leg stabbing but JEEZ

the comedic timing is amazing i like the first two messages playing off of each other with Bob introducing the party as tame and immediately after his landlord calling to say that the party was enough grounds for eviction...the other part that is timed really well is Patrice saying she had sex with Bob which broke the waterbed...callback humor is great
this also leaves a few unanswered questions..who was the person who answered the phone at the beginning? is it the police? Bill himself? why would they run six minutes of phone messages? what happened to the guys stab wound? how was he able to move? why did the lightbulbs guy come to Bills house if he said to call their office?

i hate 2:27 theres no in-universe explanation for it whydoes the guy know his name? the fart is fine as comedic relief but like there was no reason for that

the repeated use of different short samples in succsession to create the track overall and movement in and out when new ideas are added but nothing in individual instruments...ive mentioed this before but its a really appealing sound!
the middle of this song is very good...respite from the constant drum break gives way to a simpler wave

the ambient note held over this entire piece really ties the room together for me GOSH its so pretty i wanna fall asleep

Song: Bout! - Theme of Towa
Game: Time and Eternity
Composer: Yuzo Koshiro
Nominator: Player_0
Score: 88 (3.4/5/5/4.2)
Link: https-://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJFgwU8b3_A

this song wants me to fight you in smash bros i say 3 2 1 go!! and then we fight but the stage is this big floating tone sphere made up of cool fantasy elemnts from yuzo koshiro songs like full orchestral band arrangements and distinct heroic melodies with tinges of melancholy but wholly focused on hope
1:02 is the best thing ever in music, like it when music is written so you can go dadadadada and shake really hard within the span of less than a second
the guitar solo is impressive and sounds cool and at the end sounds like it will go into a violin solo but theres a trumpet instead and WOW theyre good@_@ i like the sounds (gangplank galleon smash bros)
this sounds like a song would be really fun to performed live and performed at

oh yeah.i am siting back in my space cruiser and lounging and i am looking out my space window into outer space..i dont see anything except for blackness and white dots moving at an imperceptible speed outside while this song plays on my space stereo
as 1:14 rolls around i take a sip out of my spacial coffee, as this song and the coffee are one and i am one with them. i have attained utter enlightenment through both the tasting of the coffee and the panning of the synth through my ears. every instrument in this song is like i am having lukewarm liquid bathed through my ears (dont worry i am ear-infection free, mostly because of this song)

Song: Battle Against a Weird Opponent
Game: EarthBound
Composer: Keiichi Suzuki/Hirokazu Tanaka
Nominator: azuarc
Score: 88 (4/4.4/5/4.2)

this song sounds like im having an awkward encounter with a bodily existing object that may or may not understand my language..it seems to be very amicable and attempts to get my attention and does this weird thing that is like a mix between purring like a cat and panting like a dog? i dont really understand it but it keeps doing it and i think its actually a little, cute
it also has this weird shadow that doesnt work the same way as normal shadows. its underneath it like a normal shadow but instead of being behind the object behind the light like a normal shadow it is in the other side, so when theres a light in front the light hits the shadow...im not sure why this is but its very strange and unorthodox yet very charming!

o fair heralder of worlds beyond my own, tell me tales of battles from long before my time. were they just and fair? were they as well-dressed as yourself?
in those days, my child, there was naught but violence. some embraced it wholly, but others recognized the evils of the time for what they were, and sought to make right the ways their ancestors had wronged. these folk eventually found one another, and banded together into what you know now as The Collected Bravery. with their combined individual courages and abilities, they were able to travel through the land and restore a game-like quality to fighting in the time
it was not an easy path, and they saw many casualties. where Collected Braverys numbers had once been estimated in the thousands, at journeys end there were little more than fifty members remaining. they did not, however, let this deter them, and successfully brought about an end to the totally partial system once and for all.
i had not considered the fact that there may have actually been a semblance of a story within these walls..i appreciate and commend your efforts to recreate it for me..

Song: Abadon Battle / Final Boss
Game: Magician
Composer: Neil Baldwin
Nominator: rwlh
Score: 89 (4/5/4.8/4)
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZV12Wpe6_gc

it is the early hours of the morning (or the night, depending on how youd like to think of it,), on the cusp of dawn. the faint outline of you think are buildings in the distance are just barely beginning to become visible as you edge ever so slowly forward toward the horizon. youve been chugging your way through the desert for a number of days now, and even the mere pretense of there possibly being civilisation is enough to propel you toward it. so close, just a few more, you think to yourself as you exhaustedly push yourself toward the indistinct shapes.

your tongue hangs out of your mouth doggedly, almost itself seeming to beg for a drop of liquid, any liquid.

as you continue at your sluggish pace, the sun starts to rise opposite you. fearful of the intense heat it will inevitably bring, you hasten to a crawl in hopes of reaching the buildings before its too late. </song end>

i cant formulate words any more...ive lost the ability totally, im only able to string together thoughts loosely...this song doesnt feel normal...ive been hit with a sonic memetic cognitohazard that inhibits my ability to process and reintegrate textual communication
a curious predicament in which i lose all sense of self and float into the void while this song plays, unable to think anything other than this song shouldnt sound like it does...theres really something wrong with it...i may be going crazy from extended listens but i MUST discover the cause for this
the cause is that it feels like a quick quick slow dance tempo rhythmic pattern when in actuality it is completely even and rigid in its rhythmicism

theres something vaguely insulting about this song. this is the kind of song that, were it a person, would probably bully highschoolers while being itself only in kindergarten. this song will punch you and smack yyou and kick your tush and then turn around in the face of unsuspecting authority and play up its cuteness and i think thats magical and abusive and twofaced and really just is well written,
in all seriousness a really playful track that is also encouragingly dangerous and encouraging
