This is a topic to rate the contest strength of potential newcomers in the current contest environment.

I will pick the characters to rate and discuss for each day from user nominations - whoever the 3 most nominated characters are at that time. If there are more than 3 I will pick randomly. You can nominate any number of characters at any time, but you cannot nominate the same character twice.

All characters who were present in the 2018 Character Battle will NOT be eligible. Otherwise you can nominate any character that has appeared in video games; even comic book characters. This will exclude real-life athletes who have only appeared in long running sports series, however I will accept those who have their own games such as Shaq. I will accept nominations for iconic gaming duos too, if both members of said duo are named in the title of a game (Banjo-Kazooie, Sam & Max Hit the Road, etc).

Each day will have a separate topic, and nominations will carry over. As far as actually rating the character's contest strength; I ask that users rank a characters potential strength with one of the following qualifiers - LAW Fodder, Low Fodder, Mid Fodder, High Fodder, Fodder Line, Low Midcarder, Midcarder, High Midcarder, Near Elite, Elite, LAW Tier (capable of beating Link). I will average all the ratings given to a character to come up with their final ranking. I have included a highlighted entrant from Character Battle X on each tier of the strength rankings below, to provide a baseline for each.

Note that LAW Fodder is meant to be a tier reserved for the weakest possible characters to put into a contest. A character will only be placed that if all posters for that day unanimously agree on the LAW Fodder rating. If any rating besides LAW Fodder is given, the character will not be eligible for the tier. All LAW Fodder ratings will then count as Low Fodder.

Karen: LAW fodder. This is a one-game Harvest Moon waifu. Because she's a waifu, she beats Spring Breeze Dancin', but I don't see her getting 20% on anyone else who's ever been in a contest, except some current low fodder (and even then she'd lose). It's not a series that has any proven strength and that's because nobody from it has ever had enough nominations to get in. So yeah.

Morgana: High fodder. Persona is a more-recognized franchise now than it was before P5. However, no character from any Persona game has done particularly well, not even Joker, and the obnoxious kitty isn't going to even pull Joker's numbers. However, I still think he's recognized enough to clobber any Low Fodder, so he's barely High Fodder.

Scooby: Midcarder. He's one of the most recognizable cartoon characters of all time and someone that generations upon generations have grown up watching in one form or another. While I haven't played a Scooby-Doo game since the SNES (yes, there was one back then) - and few people have played one at all - I think the fact that people love the cartoons will give him a huge boost since that's what people will judge him by.

Karen - Low fodder. No way is she LAW fodder. She's been in many HM games and is one of the most popular girls in the series. Of course she'd be crap, but not significantly more crap than Cayde-6. Heck she might even outright beat him. I've actually considered rallying her in before.

Morgana - Mid fodder. Persona characters have historically not done too well. It's still a relatively niche series.

Scooby Doo - Mid fodder. Like with many cartoon characters, this feels like the wrong place.

Karen has been in several Harvest Moon games and is one of the more recognized waifus of the series. The series is not going to be anywhere near strong, but Karen will just be regular Low Fodder.

Morgana I agree with High Fodder. I think a section of fans don't care for him due to some in-game developments, but P5's popularity will still get him above average fodder characters. That and some memes such as "Looking cool Joker!"

With Scooby-Doo I will be more conservative and go with Fodder Line. Everyone knows him and has probably watched a few shows or played some of the many Scooby games. But I just don't think people will vote for Scooby over popular game characters or a fan favorite like Han Solo. He will get votes based on nostalgia and his icon status, but there isn't really a passionate fanbase for him in general.

Btw I did nominate Joker for this topic series, since he went under the name Ren Amamiya in CBX and did not sport his phantom thief garb in the main picture. Please be inclined to second him for an interesting rating day.

We know, you've said this a few times.

Honestly, I think that's bad and relatively arbitrary reasoning. A better reason to single him out as eligible for a rating is that he was added to Smash.

Smash is definitely big as well, but I didn't really want to set the precedent of Smash allowing the rules to be broken. Either way Joker is a unique exception case and I don't think anyone else in CBX has a real case for eligibility here.
