Do not think I have ever gone to the store this early, for this precise reason...

The temperature will already go past 30 in like 30 minutes and it is not even 9 o'clock yet.

But I am almost out of food and drink stuff, so I do need to go...

Okay, PotD, if you do not hear again from me within say an hour, I might have succumbed to the heat...

If you were where I am, it's night. And good weather for going to the supermarket. I like going at night... Except in the winter. But the lines are short to non-existent. It's great...

The store closes at 9 in the evening, it will be hotter then, than it is now.

But, I made it back, 99% of my route was in shadow.

Well, excuse me for not having the genetics required to deal with these kind of temperatures.

We had a record breaking 40+ yesterday. Today is predicted to stay just below it, but that is still way to much for me.

Invest in some AC. It's a wonderful invention.

Because that helps me when going to the store how?

I know how to protect myself from the heat indoors. AC is also not that common here and my room is a 13m2 student room, so AC would kinda be overkill. I have good curtains and only sun between 8 and 110 or so.

I was working at a grocery store this evening. I got off work at 12am. I bought a big fat rib eye, a thick bundle of asparagus and a small salted caramel cheesecake. After eating the steak and the asparagus I don't have room for the cheesecake.

That's a shame. I'll eat it for you...

Yeah apparently it got up to around 38-42 C in Canada.
I was like... wow. WTAF

Also good luck (genuine) dealing with the heat. Hecking stinks. Is it humid? I can't ever get used to high humidity, no matter how many years it gets hot and humid tbh.

That is adorable. Here in Texas that is fall temps(sometimes winter too)

Bugger "adorable"! Yesterday was the hottest day ever recorded in July, in the UK. Also, you people tend to have AC built into residential properties as a default. We don't. Nor is it at all easy or cheap to acquire, over here.

It's like how the train companies are advising against unnecessary rail travel, because the rails are buckling & bending on experiencing temperatures that they're not accustomed to & weren't built to withstand. Just like we aren't. British-born people are mostly not acclimated to weather like this!

For my part, I haven't been able to leave the house during daylight for days now, between migraine & blackouts, the latter of which I risk once we get upwards of 25C & even more so above 30, simply because the heat intolerance from my autonomic nervous system dysfunction causes my blood pressure to drop like a stone. The migraines are down to the heat as well - my dark hair absorbs it just as dark clothing would. Couple that with the dramatic barometric pressure changes we've been having
scorching heat & sunshine during the day, with humidity plus rain & thunderstorms after dark and I wonder I can even be conscious at all. It's not even as though it cools down very much after dark!

Tl;dr, but don't be mean. The UK climate, for centuries, has been relatively temperate, & neither our infrastructure nor our people can easily adjust to this heat.

The highest temp. record here til the end of the 20th century was 37.7C. Summer 2003 broke that, & this month has done it again.

I'm also supposed to be keeping my weekly supply of liquid morphine at temperatures below 25C, without freezing it - but goodness only knows how I can possibly do that, without the fridge space! *flops limply & goes back to hiding in darkened living room with huge fans & minimal clothing*

Quite expensive too. I shelled out $6K for a new central air unit.

I like going grocery shopping at night, not a morning person at all, and I hate being there when the crowds are there.
But man, last weekend I went pretty late even by my standards, like I started at 8:30 pm... And there were so many people out grocery shopping

Everyone's trying to get their frozen shit home w/o it melting. hopefully this weekend will be back to normal.
