Saw her in the commercials in the Fast and Furious super hero movie she looks hot and the action is great. Can't find the clip but she did like a leg choke hold on some dude. Looked nice.

Because people think women should stay behind and wait for the hero to come home or be rescued. That's character development

There was a like 300+ topic about James Bond being a woman. A bunch of those were in it. As well as all over social media.

It could just be that 90% of any form of entertainment put out is gonna be either mediocre or straight trash.

And historically Hollywood has denied women and minorities leading roles, meaning that there have been a dearth of good women-led action films, overall. But take for example Charlize Theron in Fury Road. A fantastic action film by any standard, with a woman in one of the main roles whooping ass. If we get more films of that caliber, we will start to see people stop hating women in action roles.

Here are some other ones I can think of.

Kick-Ass
Ghost in the Shell
Wonder Woman
The Force Awakens
Hanna (now a Prime tv show as well)
The Kill Bill films
Terminator 2
Alien/Aliens
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Mulan
Jackie Brown

So there definitely have been some great ones made, but Hollywood has just been very skewed toward male leads for most of its history. So when many people think of female-led action films theyre more likely to think of the numerous mediocre ones like Resident Evil or whatever, rather than The Fifth Element or Terminator 2.

You mean people not want James Bond, to literally be a women. Because he is James Bond and also its not literally a girl being James Bond but just taking over 007 and no one really cares.

Has nothing to do with whether people want women in action roles.

People are generally fine with women in action roles, but that doesn't mean they want women to replace men. That topic wasn't about not wanting a woman in a leading role in an action-packed spy thriller, it's about not wanting a woman to be 007.

It's more about a woman taking an established role over a woman being an action hero.

There's a way to do female heroes in action scenarios without being cringe-inducing, and Black Widow is a good example of that. She's got no special abilities to set her apart, and yet she became an Avenger based on pure skill.

They don't oversell her competence, she still makes mistakes and has weaknesses like fear or regret, the fact that she's a woman rarely makes a difference to her actions as a character, she fits right in with the rest of the team in group shots, and when she makes quips about men vs. women or whatever, it settles right in with everybody else's banter and doesn't stick out like a writer's random righteous statement.

Basically...the problem with female main characters in action movies? They're usually just a gimmick. The entire personality and characterization of the female character ends up being "she's a girl and she kicks ass!"

And that's just as boring and cliche as "he's a man and he kicks ass!" but problem arises chiefly because the actresses chosen to star often lack the charisma or blown-out cheese factor of a hero actor like Harrison Ford, Will Smith, Kurt Russel, Arnold Schwarzenegger, or Sylvester Stallone.

With the right casting, good writing, and a tendency to resist "girl power" cliches, a female lead in an action movie can work perfectly. Look at Furiosa from Mad Max: Fury Road for a second good example.
